  1. Hi Rick, just got a few pictures of that Radiator, its not in very good shape but good enough for a patern, may still be a better idea to talk to the other guy you mentioned but i'll see what comes of this first, cheers mike.
  2. Hi Rick, sounds like the radiator is same as marks, i'm trying hard to acquire it and also a complete engine too that came out of the same truck, the gearbox/transaxle is there too but its incomplete, but i'm hoping the fact that I have shown the owner the big pile of albion parts and chassis etc, that they can see it can be put to use in making a whole vehicle, obviously a vehicle made from original parts not an original vehicle, heres hoping it can happen? Doug it will be a while before I can start on this but i'll keep following up any leads, cheers mike.
  3. Hi Doug, yes you are quiet right, and I've still got to go back and pick up another chassis and a complete rear end! on the plus side I've just located another transaxle/gearbox and the correct radiator, for a WD model, just a matter of negotiating a price ,hopefully? and I do have all the steel now for a decent sized shed, trouble is work keeps getting in the way of my hobby, mike.
  4. Hi Rick, I have tried to send a private message 4 or 5 times but for some reason it wont go through, I have just bought a collection of A10 parts with one chassis and engine having the numbers 1979.F on them, the albion club reckon its a WD model but have no records of this particular chassis, anyway there is almost 2 or 3 of everything with the exception of no radiator at all and only one gutted carburettor, I think this is why the owner gave up on this as he had picked up the parts almost 40 odd yrs ago, wondering if you can help? I've also spoken to phil in parkes nsw, so hoping he may be able to help too, anyway doesn't hurt to ask! thanks mike.
  5. Carey, the pintlehook body I sent you is an original one off the spare chassis I have, and the spring is still inside it mate, I took it all apart to clean so you wouldn't have any problems with customs as it was full of dirt ! from that picture it wouldn't be too hard to make a patern I reckon, and get a few cast, that's what i'd do, I found a gmc pintle that fitted perfectly, but the hook is different, could be reshaped a little to look more correct and add the tang ontop? just an idea i'm thinking about.cheers mike.
  6. What a great find and having the truck going is a big plus, i'm pretty sure this is a series one but has a series two rad, oil filler castings for springs are angled and electric lighting says series one, as stated not sure if the pintle is correct, the ones I have seen are quiet large and mount differently, Tim, if you haven't allready? put your mate onto Adrian in the US, hes done a lot of research into series one especially as you know he has a complete truck, mike.
  7. hi, those wheels look like Liberty front wheels, seven spokes , that's what I reckon, mike.
  8. Hi Tony, thanks for your assistance, Hedd has supplied me with the new owners details, i'll give him some time to at least receive the parts and contemplate whether they are of use for his project, then i'll make contact with him, may even end up he gets some of the parts I have as at least someone will be going forward instead of a collection of nothing but steel and wheels! ay! cheers mike.
  9. hi, I have a 1924 cjk22 chassis, any chance you could tell me the details on the axle tag, if it has one, there usually is the type model Daimler stamped into the tag-- cjk or cka etc, I had more or less given up on this project, I have found another rear end for a cka and got some radiator sidewing patterns, and the correct gearbox turned up for the cjk, but the fact that only so few came to nz, this has reduced my chances of finding anything else for years, cheers mike.
  10. hi all, definitely liberty wheels and I think the axle is too, the front axles do have a slight downwards curve to them, I'm still looking for one rear steel wheel, I do have a wooden set of rears, but they are a bit rough, there will be one out there somewhere for sure, mike.
  11. hi rick, I knew a guy in Victoria who was looking for white front wheels same as on that chassis, lost contact with him though over the years, shame because he was contemplating getting me to try and remove the wheels of this white chassis I found in the bush some years back, its the same model I think, and someone added xtra traction aids to the rears, I was told the winch on the back was for pulling logs out of steep gullies, doug knows of this chassis too, mike.p.s this pic has been on the forum previously.
  12. Hi, I reckon the chassis is a White from the early twenties, the wheels are correct and the chassis is an I beam, 3 ton whites were 6 inch deep and 5 ton white trucks were 7 inch deep tapered RSJ chassis rails, mike.
  13. hi tony/tim and steve, I checked another set of rear j type wheels I have and there is one of those brake drums with the heavy bands on the edges, this chassis is around 1919, maybe it was a later design as cracking the drums was a common problem? just a thought, cheers mike.
  14. Hi donal, thanks for the offer, and yes I hope we can help each other, I have some model E spares that came with my truck so don't hesitate to ask, mine is fairly complete, I'm waiting on the correct lights and new front fenders that are coming from the states, I got a good fueltank from Dave Lockard as well as a large chassis diagram that dave laminated and sent me, I'm missing the handpump for the fuel system and all the gauges [3 off] the other piece I'm having trouble finding here in NZ is some 6'x3' tapered channel to repair the rearend of the chassis where its been hacked off, I may have to fab it myself? anyway send me a pm if you need anything, cheers mike.
  15. Hi, to answer your questions, originaly the rear tyres I think should be duals, but being put to use as a farmtruck later on in its life whatever fitted was used I guess?, the engine is packards own, and from what I've read they were a truck with a good reputation for reliability, not sure what style body I'm going to do yet, the pictures probably don't do the chassis justice as its quiet a heavy tapered channel and only has a slight sideways bend due to the fact that the rear crossmember was replaced with a piece of railway iron which is cracked in half, as to a timeframe for restoration Robert, I'm still working on the Albion 24, so i'll have some decisions to make? even though I like American trucks obviously, I'm still very keen on the British trucks, I'm actually trying to purchase the remains of an early 20's large chaindrive Scammell. The American trucks are usually found in a far more mechanically complete state, unlike how you and I find our trucks down here, they normaly allways are missing major components like engines or diffs, radiators etc, I've included a few pics of a 1912 White 3 ton chassis that came with the Packard, it fitted very nicely ontop of the Packard, its again rough but mechanically complete and also has an excellent radiator, the engine turns over which was a surprise as the White was more or less thrown in with the Packard!! as you can tell I like them all, and I'm filling my shed up very quickly so a new shed and workshop is planned in the next few years, cheers mike.
  16. Hi, thought I'd post some pictures of the project that I've found and bought, it is a model D 3 ton Packard truck that came of a farm in Idaho, it also came with a spare engine out of an early model E which is the same engine more or less, only the D is a 3 speed with the gearchange on the outside of the chassis and the E models came out with a 4 speed g/box attached to the back of the engine, I have the brass radiator for the truck but it was removed and crated separately for transporting and is in excellent condition, the truck is mechanically complete and has had the usual bits of steel welded to it and some of the rear section cut off, I have also got the correct fueltank coming from Dave lockhard who runs the Packard truck club in the states, he has been more than helpful and his dedication to all things Packard is well known, hope you all enjoy. cheers mike.
  17. Doug, not sure if its a white, that front crossmember would be a good clue i'd say, i have seen a Denby chassis with smith wheels and front axle like that one, and as you say front brakes would probably place it mid twenties?, i'll have to check a few pictures i have, mike.
  18. Hi Gustaf, they sure look in new condition, i checked one of my chassis and its got 40 x 8 on the rears, they are overhanging the cast rims a bit, and the front ones are 36 x 7, these too are overhanging, i suspect you just put on whatever size was near enough in those days, the liberty specs states the sizes i put in my first response, i am interested in them, so i'll send you a P.M, cheers mike.
  19. hello tony, you have a good system going there, and it works, being a sandblaster/industrial painter obviously spraying is an advantage and easier and quickier, but with that heavy rust pitting and lots of rivets, crossmember edges against the insides of the chassis etc, brushing is the best way to seal these areas, when i blasted my albion chassis i chose to brush my first coat of epoxy then sprayed a second coat, then brushed the first coat of colour then sprayed the second coat of colour in urethane semigloss, and the brush marks were kept to a minimum using a slower thinner, your system of 5 to 6 coats guarantees a good build of paint to protect the steel, i use a high build epoxy on my second coat to achieve this, tony just thought i'd add my two cents worth mate. cheers mike.
  20. hello gustaf, the liberty i have has 40 x 6 duals on the rear, i havent had a close look to see if they are seperate, or the duals are on one rim? i'll have a look tommorow, the front ones are smaller 36 x 5, any chance of a couple of pictures of the tyres? i would be interested in them if they were correct, thanks mike.
  21. hi tim, thanks for your offer, i may take you up on that, i've been chasing this for about 3 years now, but now after finding out about the different gearbox, and i'm not sure if a j type radiator with handle through the core is the right size, maybe its too rare a vehicle to find enough parts to restore, i do have dibs on an m4 engine and box, but no steering box, probably still worth collecting, and saving, probably pay to do some more homework on this, i'll keep you posted. mike.
  22. Tony, thanks for the info and update, and yes i do understand about the problems with trying to rebuild old engines that have sat outside for decades, i'm allmost ready to put the engine back together for the albion model LB24, lucky for me i had 4 engines, just, enough to make one!! yesterday i finally bought the diff home with wheels and springs attached and its now all bolted to the chassis, back to these thornycroft trucks they sure did make a lot of different models and just to confuse it even more down here in nz and australia where old trucks were modified added to and kept going even only if it was to be a farm hack, Doug thanks also for the info on the X-type trucks, i wasnt aware about the differnet shaped gearbox, and yes i am in the process of trying to acquire a very complete X type chassis with good wheels, the owner has an engine for it but i think its too early being an L4 engine, i may be wrong about this? but i have read the x models had the M4 engine same as the J-type, doug i have also identified that thornycroft i have outside against the fence, its a BX, it has a 4 speed box and is very similar to a BT, sharing the same engine, thought youd like to know, cheers mike. ,
  23. Hi Tony, hope you dont mind me asking a few questions, does your thornycroft engine have the word THOR cast onto any of the smaller attachments, gatechange etc, does this stand for war department? and do you know if there are any survivors of the lighter model X type made for INDIA in the uk or somewhere else, sorry i havent been in touch for a while, work has got in the way of any passtime activities, i'm allways looking forward to the progress the gosling clan are making on the thorny. cheers mike.
  24. Hi Dan, very impressive work building that radiator from scratch, its bad enough trying to rebuild an original, especially repairing old tubes, the engine that you are looking for is a 4 cylinder? or was there an option for the larger 6 cyl engine, i've read about and seen that halley trucks did have 6 cyl engines but this may have been for fire engines? and perhaps slightly later trucks, i'll keep my ear to the ground down here in nz for you, cheers mike.
  25. thanks for the tip, i have been there and seen their leyland, but no one could tell me if they had any other leyland parts or spares, cheers mike. p.s i have sent an email last week.
