  1. best summing up I have seen to add to the bit about exemptions people seem to seize on these as an excuse non of them allow you drive on a private basis to shows etc
  2. Hi sure winch is civilian mod. Hard to say from picture but guess Garwood. The PTO arrangement on them was a good set up for winching. The main gearbox was 4 speed + reverse unitary construction on the rear of gearbox was another gearstick with high low and PTO on it. so you could have 4 speed + reverse on PTO shaft. £1000 would be a good price if you could buy for that. As it stands I guess 8.5 tons @ £180 scrap
  3. as far as I am aware if the person you are buying of is not vat registered and you are not then no vat is payable. it is the same as buying a bar of chocolate or a tent or a bike say keep the receipt and show it. I think this is one of daft things where if you read the rules and regs where someone will be quite happy to take your money off you
  4. Sorry I am not saying download flash player from a site. Flash player comes with windows 8 its all ready there it just needs activating once and once only three key presses from the start menu/control panel menu why not have it when its already installed on your machine Flash Player is integrated with Internet Explorer in Windows 8. You do not need to install Flash Player. Click the tools menu, in the upper-right corner of Internet Explorer. From the tools menu, choose Manage Add-ons. Select Shockwave Flash Object from the list. Note: Ensure that your current website has rich media content. If the current website does not contain rich media content, Shockwave Flash Object doesn't appear in the list. Click Enable, and then click Close.

  9. I don't think they built as early a 48 I don't know but would suggest around mid 50 to late 50s the one I had came out of ruddington 81. very heavy rugged built chassis. simple design. Huge petrol engine but enough room to fit desiel in eg Leyland 680 etc I put a Scania in mine. The dealer who I bought it off said he still had an agent in india who were refurbing the for the indian army. Paid £650 for it with cracked block and recon engine in crate.

  15. I had never heard of him until two years ago when he did an interview on radio 4. I did a bit of research be cause his feats sounded unbelievable Just look at the potted history in Wikipedia for a taster. Flying at eight only sunk by a torpedo one of two survivors out of 800+ flying more than 400 types of planes and that don't include different MKs of plane. More take offs and landings on different floating ships than any one else earth. taking the surrender of german airbase 2000 personnel single handed. interviewing german war criminals getting arrested by the SS it goes on and on. He is my hero of all time

  20. like you say Mark you are opening a can of worms there is no way an over width vehicle can be used for riding about for pleasure mot exempt legally. But people think because they have a log book and the other bits and pieces they need to tax it they are OK. Plus you will never convince them otherwise only an unfortunate accident and the full weight of the authorities raining down on them will do that. Nothing else to say on the matter
  21. Now that's a very bonny looking truck
  22. Sorry for my delay in replying. First I dont dislike jeeps. I fully understand you fear of losing your pride and joy. What I was trying to point out is the market for stolen jeeps and parts is much less lucrative for people who steal vehicles for a living than commercial vehicles/land rovers/4X4/plant etc. Second if it were stolen don't expect blues and twos screaming after it even if the company running the tracker have informed the police. The idea of owning a cherished vehicle is to enjoy having it and using it. You do what is ever required to satisfy your self its safe. But don't get to paranoid about protecting it. By the way the police love Landrovers as they are the easiest vehicles to identify even from parts I think the prospect of losing it much less than you might think what are the figures for jeeps genuinely stolen in the UK
  23. just out of curiosity what is the figures for jeeps stolen genuinely and who steals them. It wont be opportunists looking for there scrap value I doubt it will be traders in jeeps for parts this only leaves other enthusiasts who are maybe jealous but what would they do with them so this gives the scenario your jeep has been stolen your tracker tells you where it is what next I will guarantee unless it is being followed as suspicious vehicle you will be told to report it to insurance and given a crime number. its ok giving a vehicle a tracker smart water etc the only things that work are stopping vehicles getting taken in the first place. but people because they have a desire to own a certain vehicle automatically assume every body else has the same desire and feel vunrable
  24. Certainly in better nick than the Dornier trawled up recently in UK waters I can understand throwing a bit of money at it
