  1. thanks mike ive just got off the phone to them and im being told the person who will deal with my enquiry will know straight away if they can help or not and may send the payment back if thats the case all i know of its history is it left york in febuary 1989

  2. You should make an enquiry with the Royal Logistics Corps Museum, their address:

    RLC Museum

    Princess Royal Barracks

    Deepcut

    Camberley

    Surrey

    GU16 6RW

    Tel: 01252 833371

There was a nominal charge for having the service done, cannot remember how much now but well worth it.

Give them a ring and they'll let you know how much info they need.

I'm sure I just sent make, model, chassis number and mil reg number.

    Happy enquiries! :-D

    Alec

thankyou ill be calling them this week

  3. having changed the oils and fully greased it all i pulled the rope out around 40 ft or so 3 times there apears to be times when it is a little freer but then stiffens up again and the grease coming out is very thin and runny but i ran out of time so im thinking i just need to find a place to run the whole rope out and grease grease grease i held the pressure arms off and made no difference the rollers all turn nicely

  4. well thanks for that i took the filler plug out before takeing the drain plug out and a pint of yellow/ brown sludge came out the top ive now flushed it out and refilled and greased everything to death but it still cant be pulled out on my own so i think i need to pull all the rope out and back in a few times and see if that gets it all moving other than that is it possable the spring loaded arms that coil the rope be gripping the drum too tightly and stopp it turning ? andy

  5. having seen the you tube link in recovery and towing of the pioneer recovering a ditched tank the winch rope is run out by 1 man with little effort so should i be able to pull out the rope on my mk 1 explorer ?the hand brake linkage is all taken apart cleaned up and greased but still no joy so i then took the brake band completly off = still no joy with the left hand cover removed it needs a longish bar on the winch frame and to the large gear to get it to move it has had little use over the years so might it be a case of plenty of grease and run the cable in and out thanks andy

  6. i didnt know that information existed let alone seen it thankyou for your help (both of you ) interesting that i was talking to a mate of a mate who was telling me his father drove 91 bd 56 in singapore and i was thinking they may have been of the same contract however i can see now it may be some 2 or 3 years younger does it then follow that 00 BD 88 to 02 BD 14 is the sum total of contract no 6 -- 5067 ? and that they were all explorers

  7. almost sure this has been covered before but i cant find it i was wondering if there is rhyme or reason to the numbering ie my 1951 explorer was 02 bd 10 from the reg can you say its a 51 from that and does the 02 or 10 mean anything when did the system start and might that have been with AA ?

    thanks andy

  8. If they're modern tyres they may also have a load index which will give you a guide.

I don't have a load rating for 14.00 x 20 12 PR but the load rating in the VOSA table I have for 11.00 x 20 12 PR (the biggest 12 PR tyres listed) is 5350 kg per axle on single wheels, and generally speaking for a given ply rating the load index increases with increasing tyre size, so I'd have thought 14.00 x 20 should be fine unless you're using the truck (heavily) laden.

If I remember right (again not on my list) 14.00 x 20 20 PR rate about 10 tonnes per axle.

does anyone know the modern equivilent of 1400 x 20 ? i ask because ive been offered (at my favourite price ) 8 tyres from a leyland daf 4x4 that might apear to fit but can i? i also have a set of 1500 x20 with tubes but not fitted to my spare rims are the tubes in these the same size ?

  9. We picked up this Lucas 742 at Beaulieu a few years ago. It has the electric conversion socket screwed in the back and also WD stamped in it. It is intended that it will find a home on the Thornycroft eventually.
