  2. Hopefully will have some more information in another days time , and will try sort out some photos , as for building the caravan , it was alterations that they were doing , joinery work .
  3. Quite Interesting that Mike , I used to have a lot of Gardner engine manuals and was after a 5 cyl engine many years just for the sake of having one ,, would you know the hourse power range for the 5 cyl engines
  4. welcome in Dan, sounds like you'll be kept busy with that lot to keep rite :-)
  5. Welcome Mike , Whats your best choice of engine for the explorer and did you make up adapter plates ?
  6. Can still remember the squeal from the neighbors large ford ( think it was TW series ) ran out of diesel at nearly full throttle whilst ploughing , the turbo squealed to a stop ,the neighbor new from the sound that it weren't good , when he restarted to move on with a few revs you could clearly hear the turbo screaming ,, by the time he got back to the yard about 1/2 mile it was bellowing out clouds of smoke and he had to stall the engine as it was running on the oil being pumped up to the turbo ,,, I had one go through not changing the oil ( famous words I'll do it next week ) strange thing is it was making a great sound before it went , when it did go it sounded and felt as though someone had hooked a large chain onto the tow bar
  7. That looks very interesting , does it use a light truck chassis and running gear or unique to that type of vehicle
  8. WW2 soldier how much information can be found , This is some information that I've found about my Grandfather ,, served as a Royal Engineer attatched to the Eighth Army , and was at Egypt ( Against Rommel ),Libya N/Africa ( built a caravan with Montgomery ) , Italy from there had to make there way up to Norway on foot , were he was awarded a silver whatch for skiing ( not collected ) My grandfather never spoke of the war much at all and only in his last weeks did I find things out like using explosives to blowing up railway tracks , bridges , even to catch fish , it was not until his funereal that I was able to understand some of the reasons , I'm not sure were it was but whilst in a truck with his Group ( Very good mates I would think by this time ) there truck was blown to bits not sure if by a mine or shell but he was the only one to survive ,
  9. looks a useful tool , wounder how they get the drive to the rear axle
  10. Good to hear you got it sorted :-)
  11. if it was anywhere else I'd have said it was teenagers that'd done it ,, did a good job patching it up
  12. This happened to a large cat loading shovel on delivery , on a lot of turbo charged vehicles the exhausts don't need baffles because the turbo muffles quite a bit to start with , they tend to need strait through pipes so the exhaust is just a drilled pipe with a larger surrounding pipe ( Like the one that was made for the early Dennis on here ) then take into consideration valve overlap , exhaust and inlet can be open together , then if you think how a venturi works or small hand held sand blaster , or under seal gun , it does not always need to have flow through just turbulence
  13. My better half  I had a go at teaching her to drive , after trying to teach her how the gears work 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th but you won't need the last two , showed her clutch control and how to get a feel of it ( clutch peddle before you start ) after several attempts of stalling I told her that first is the lowest gear 5th the highest I then proceeded to show her how to control the clutch again but this time setting of in top gear and only touching the clutch peddle , she managed after that but I was rather pi55ed off after three quarters of an hour trying to push the bloody car out of a field , she just said you didn't tell me when to turn :undecided: , shortly after that I let her have a go in a Range Rover in low box she liked that and we never got stuck in the field :-D ,, If I just drive the slightest off road she goes mad but not the sister in law she really likes it ( driving off road that is :red: )
  14. Nice looking dumper and loader John , there used to be A Foden Half cab still at work in a quarry working on dust suppression up until the mid nineties , a lot of the quarry's went off them as the chassis would crack often meaning the end for the driver ,, one above I posted is a four wheeler , PM sent :-)
  15. Many thanks Runflat thats very interesting , I think the one above could have been a refuse truck ,, The coles crane looked as though it just needed a couple of bateries and of course the windscreen cleaning I'm sure I had a pic of another crane, from my last visit , not sure if ex Military , will have to search through pics
  16. Great looking truck doing a great job , very useful size HIAB :-) , Originally Posted by ChasSomT. Anyone else care to comment? Do not think it would be a problem and would think it would lift the front before the chassis would bend , anyone else bent the chassis on one of these ? quite a few of the modern trucks like Richard mentions may not have an axle set up as good , separately sprung axles I know most have compensator rods but don't work as well , so surely the rear front axle would get more stress ,,,,,, than the Walking Beam type ,,,, have built trailers with axle setups like this as they ride much better over rough terrain especially sleeping policemen ,,,, just my thoughts ,,,
  17. Mark that must have been good to get the wills out :-) ,, Will the keys still operate what there made to fit :-D
  18. Passed here today looked very quiet , good photos Bob :-)
  19. Had to make a delivery today so thought would take a detour to get some more pics but in these sheltered areas still quite a bit of snow ,still 3 ft drifts at the road side , did not see the owner so only got a couple of pics that I missed last time ,, , got back to the A66 and down to Kirkby Stephen and had a quick look by a breakers yard because there used to be a radial engine there , could not not see anyone or the engine  ,, spotted a Pinzgaur 6x6 once back on the road , headed for the M6 my pal liked the drive so much he kept going until Liverpool :-) ,, Unloaded the van then back on the M6 and liked the drive so much ended up past Carlisle picked some parts up and we got back in the van and I said to my pal Drive forest drive :-D back down the M6 over the tops on the A66 . When on the M6 spotted an ex military 6 wheel recovery truck like a Scammel Explorer at a house quite close , then on the A66 passed Warcop Ranges Think this is the Coles crane with AEC running gear
  20. JohnA61 are you in a Champ club and if so have you seen a hard top pick up like the one above in post three ? almost warm , did no company offer an after market heater for them ? like Smiths did for Land Rovers
