  1. Oil level is ok, we checked that first. We do suspect the pump and that was to be our next investigation. I don't drive it but there were no warning lights come on.
  2. the power steering failed on the way back from Horndean. Does any body have any pointers on where to start?:-|
  3. We have finally made up our minds, so should be there with the 101 and the 432. Lets just hope the weather holds.
  4. The Mk1/1 Fv432 that I own a share in has the military reg 02 EA 21. In the Tankograd FV432 book written by Rob Griffin, he states the first 54 432s delivered were 02 EA 01 to 02 EA 54, and they did not have a reinforced floor. I now have 2 questions, Were these later upgrades to have a reinforce floor or were they left? More interestingly for me, is ours the oldest remaining 432? Does anybody know of any other of the early 432s? I am assuming this referes to production vehicles, does anybody know if there are any prototypes remaining?
  5. Just make enquires first. The trailers towed behind Bedfords are termed as Arrows trailers and Withams have termed these as Arrows widetrack trailers. Thet are much larger and rated at 1 3/4 tons. The Bedford trailers are quite large really and a military landrover with their low powered engines would really struggle to pull 1!
  6. We got a Foden LMLC in the end from a member on here. We have a bit of work to do but we are really pleased with it.
  7. The ferret was based in Ruislip, Middlesex. I'll check before I pass on his phone number but I don't think it will be a problem. Best of luck with it Barry
  8. Hi Keith, One of my friends owned that ferret until about 2 1/2 years ago. Its good to see it again we wondered where it was now. He had many great years with it, and it was a very reliable vehicle and purred like a kitten. Best of luck with it, and maybe we'll meet at Horndean
  9. The picture I posted is definately a different tank to the chieftian. Its definately a Challenger1 you can see from the side armour, its got vertical armour rather than sloping with the bins along the side. He has had it sitting there for about a year now, so was there when you took the cheiftain pic.
  10. He has done work on some. I think hes done up about 4 so far. This is 1 hes done over the winter
  11. They are at Nick Meads. Tanks a Lot. Hes had them several years now, when the salvage squad done up the Stolley he tracked down the Swim gear for them, and found them at the same time.
  12. Nick at Tanks a Lot has a challenger1. Bare hull and needs a complete rebuild.
  13. This site will give you some of the answers http://ferret-afv.org/markings-paint/Clive%20Elliot's%20Painting%20%20Material.pdf Barry
  14. Just something else, are the sherman tanks etc. road registered owned by forum members? I belive these will be over the 2.55m width so are these also outside the laws at present? Barry
  15. I have a Fv432 Mk1. If I was to cut off the air filtration box on the off side, and plate it over I belive this would then fall within the 2.55m witdth. Does this then include my 432 within the changes? Or are tracked vehicles to stay exempt? The later Mk2 has the extra width with the exhaust down the side so this mod would make no difference without further modifications. Barry
  16. What class of vehicle is the scaracen registered as? And what year is it? Barry 101 radio body FV432 Mk1
  17. Hi desperatedes, Welcome. Nice to hear from someone local on the forum. I'm sure you will spend many hours looking back and watching what some of the guys have done. Barry 101 radio body fv432 mk1 various trailers!
  18. This is quite right. Many of the earlier widetracks did not have jockey wheels, but an adjustable leg with a flat plate at the base. This was usually mounted on the rear of the A frame cross bar. Many were retrofitted later with a jockey wheel. The later mk111 type with the folding jockey wheel and disc brakes would be too late though really to be correct.
  19. I belive the black box may have held a radio tunning unit on this mark when fitted with the atgm system. As the the hole in the turret side this was definately for the elevation pivot for the missile boxes which were on either side of the turret.
  20. I was up at Withams today viewing the tender. At the back there were 8 cheiftains in a line all covered in tarps. You don't see that in many places now. There were also more over the far back. Three ferrets were there too, 1 being a big wheeled type with floatation screen. All 3 are in poor cosmetic condition, with the tin work badly eaten by the rust worm.
  21. I do a little instructing for Nick at Tanks a Lot, and we have run these for about 3 years now. They have tended to be abused a lot, and hence they have been quite unreliable. We went through a spate of sprockets going, the plastic becoming delaminated from the steel wheel inside. We aslo had many road wheels go, the bearing housing cracking in the centre of the wheels and they would then drop off. These are not greasable either. We also had a few drive shaft problems, and had the petrol engines catch fire. But I must say they are great vehicles to drive and are lots of fun. In the right hands what they will do is quite incredible.
  22. That leak is fixed, but the other side weeps slightly!! Great to see a pic of the old girl in service. I've looked before and found nothing so this is a bonus. Shame there are no visibe markings, it would be good to add some markings from her past. Many Thanks Barry
  23. I thought it would be a bit on the heavy side, and did think that it may be too tall. Would look good though! Barry
