  1. I run a Mk1 as well. Its a great drive and I've had no problems with it at all. I do run on contaminated fuel which I have managed to aquire from a local garage, but I do make sure the petrol content is as high as possible. We haven't had any problems operating the petrol, I have heard all sorts of stories about ignition problems but we've been ok. I think ours has been the only mk1 at Beltring over the past couple of years, and we've had lots of ex-service men look us up with all sorts of stories and they seemed very popular with those who used them. In the command role they were sort after, mainly due to the fact they tick over much quieter than the mk2.
  2. We havw a small gas bbq. Its so easy to cook any meats you need. We have a gas fridge as well so we go to the supermarket a couple of times and stock up.
  3. Yes I think so. Still undecided what vehicle to take.
  4. Is anyone thinking of going to the Acw cafe for rememberance day?
  5. I used to have a larkspur harness in my ferret. I couldn't afford a radio for it, and needed the room. I'm sure I managed to get an I box, which allowed me to use the Larkspur harness and the headsets. I can't remember much about it though. The larkspur headsets are not as good quality and they are much harder to hear than the more modern Clansman units. They would be more in keeping with a 1950s vehicle though.
  6. I am sure I saw a light gun at the Muckleburgh Collection, in Norfolk. How do museums get these items, are they donated by the MOD?
  7. Ours reads as follows Make: Sankey FV432 Mk1/1 Body Type: Lift Truck Taxation Class: Historic Vehicle CC: 6522 Fuel Type: Petrol Wheel Plan: Non-Standard Colour Green/Black All other headings are blank other than vin.
  8. We've got a FV432 Mk1. May well be interested in attending, just depends on dates etc. Another idea maybe to arrange something at the War and Peace show 2011, there will be several there. They would look good all in a convoy around the sight 1 evening? The military reg on ours is 02 EA 21 which I belive is from the first production batch. I'd like to know if its the earliest running 432 about? Anyone know of any other Mk1s
  9. I've found this British Pathe sight tonight. I have spent over an hour liiking at some of the films, there is even 1 of a saracen loosing a wheel, it did fly well. Some great footage of post war British vehicles. Some nice scenes of early cheiftains, centurians etc. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=42513
  10. The photo shows some of the storage brackets and what sits in them. Most of these brackets have metal loops under for the straps to br threaded through, to hold down the equipment.
  11. Have you tried turning off the IR lights? I haven't seen a wiring diagram or read the book for a while but I would guess that the IR would override these so the 432 would not be visable??
  12. We arrived yesterday. Good run down and a great day to set up. Weather great again looking forward to chilling out today now all the gear is set up.
  13. Thanks for the info Bran. We rebuilt the pump and put it on yesterday afternoon. We used the 32 grade oil. It ran up nicely. The old oil looked dirty so we flushed it thorough. The steering is fine now.
  14. If everything has been to pieces it might be an idea to double check all the pipes have been nipped up, so no air can be getting in. I had trouble at 1 point with the seal not sitting correctly around the fuel filter bowl, again letting in air. Suppose you have enough fuel? Have you tried switching the fuel changeover tap to the other side?
  15. We are going down the Saturday before. Not sure about the 432 at the moment as the truck is still not mobile:embarrassed:. 101 good to go though. We are usually in the Americas field opesite the narrow wonkey foot bridges if anyone wants to say hello. Don't suppose anyone has spare room on a lowloader for a 432 if we can't fix the truck? Its near Gerrards Cross presently.
  16. I called in earlier this week looking for a power steering pump. Here are a few pics I took. The Antar is still there, but looks very sad. We saw a couple of 101s An interesting all wheel drive snow blower. And a Foden LMLC. He did have an RR220 engine with a power steering pump but it looked in poor condition and he wanted far toooooo much for it. The serch goes on! We spoke to 1 of the guys working there, and he said the 100tonner is ok it was in another shed. It was mainly tools and tyres that went up, with a couple of trucks they had prepared for sale.
  17. You need to contact David Fletcher at Bovingdon Tank Museum. They have the record cards for armoured vehicles.
  18. Yes I think you may well have done. I did have several bits of ces that I sold off. Shame I sold it, it was a great ferret. Got a 432 now but the ferret was just as good at giving the smile factor and more practicle.
  19. Another link with some photos. http://www.heart.co.uk/dunstable/local/news/firefighters-tackle-blaze-scrapyard/ You can see a RLC light recovery by the shed. We went to view that 4 or 5 years ago and it looks like it has not moved. Amazing place well worth a look.
  20. We used to tow a trailer with our ferret when we had it.We towed it for 3 years with no problems. We had so much gear there was no other way of going to shows without it. I made a drop plate, and bloted to the rear armour, which had the nato hook on. I made up a metal box for the lighting block and wired it back into the conector blocks inside the crew compartment. All worked well with no problems at all.
  21. We think we have identified the pump as the problem with our Foden LMLC. However in the books we have I cannot find the correct grade of oil we will require when we reassemble it. I belive some vehicle use ATF, some use a power steering oil and some use a 30 grade. Does anyone know what we should use?
  22. The first check should always be the batteries. They are the easyiest things to check before you even get any spanners out. Altough they may be new you may have left the intercom on and they have dropped some voltage.
  23. We were at RAF Northolt for the families day. We got the flypast just after 1O'clock. Great event to attend. We get to walk round and touch the aircraft, talk to the pilots and even sit in the seats. Most of the pics when the planes came over are just black shapes but here is a taster.
  24. Apparently it drives quite well, when the power steering works! It cruises along comfortably at 45 but will do more. A bit sluggish up hills but pulls well.
