  1. Certainly an eye catcher. I personally wouldn't give it yard space.
  2. It's a new sheet of metal Bill. Paint stripper is good to use, though flipping expensive now. I quite like to use the poly carbide discs for flat panel work, takes all the paint off ace, and leaves a good finish on the steel for painting. Good job there Ian, great work. Simon
  3. Does seem a tad steep, but what is the going rate for actual original wartime dated photo's, as opposed to copies.
  4. Finally good weather allowed me to have another go at the switchboard face, so duly repainted I attempted to apply the Letraset. Must say after a couple of botches, luckily the letters do pick off quite easily, so will also need to give it a coat of clear lacquer too, it didn't look too bad. Repainted better than last time. Nearly finished article. Just hope I can remember how it all goes back together.... Also after ages of biding my time, I also managed to aquire some air brake hose. After googling and asking at a local air/hydraulic company, some finally appeared on ebay. So duly ordered a good length, and have got two refurbished. All the bits ready, cleaned and painted to be assembled. Job done.
  5. Yup Fv1110, that's the last one remaining, 3 Fv1103 and an Fv1121 have already had the chop. Some of it is in my shed, need the weather to warm up then go get a bit more. Bill, I'll Pm you the wherebouts, as I think the owner would rather the location is not overly publicised, as I believe he is fed up with people just wandering around willy nilly. If you ask permission first, he's not actually a bad chap.
  6. Director is Peter Jackson, of Lord of the Rings fame.
  7. Hi Ian welcome in from another Bomber county lad. I presume you are referring to the otherwise known Raf Waltham? As for Matador, would that be the Refueller 6x6 variant? Simon
  8. Apparently it is the 70th anniversary of the Great Escape.
  9. Here's a few pics of RB44's at Withams tender, a bit rough mind. Just shows the difference in patterns. Looking at these, then anything goes.
  10. Marcus also stocks the RSN 12 plugs, ref no MG369. Think pump diaphragm is this one http://www.marcusglenn.com/catalog/viewphoto.php?shoph=320&phqu=0, which is ref MG320. The other is for the economy pump, or so my Martian ISPL says.
  11. You may have to bite the bullet and use 40x40x5, which should be available at most steel stockholders. What length would these pieces be?
  12. That's something I need to look into too, my Martian door glass has a few too many welding/grinding nibs. Laminated flat glass should be able to be cut by most windscreen companies, but toughened would have to be made special, as it would shatter if attempted to cut.
  13. BST refers to the Ballast resistor, this shorts when you turn the ignition switch to enable full voltage to the coil when starting and SOL is for the starter solenoid, also in the same area should be OIL, and R. These wires go between the switchboard and the ignition junction box, usually fixed to the inlet manifold at the back of the engine.
  14. Thought it was time to update this. Not done a great deal, spent the last week tidying one of the sheds so I can get in and start doing a few more jobs like stripping parts for cleaning and painting. On the switchboard front,I didn't like how it turned out using the printed lettering, so stripped it all of again, just waiting for a reasonably calm day to repaint it. In the meantime I aquired some 3 & 5mm Letraset transers, so will try those next. This is how it turned out. I think the main downside for me was the colour of the inkjet black wasn't the same shade as the black paint I used, also looks like the black has reacted slightly. Another job put aside for a rainy day and now finished has been the radiator filler filter, which was a bit shredded in places. I unsoldered it all, cleaned it up, stripped a fuel tank filter which has the same brass gauze, cut the gauze to size, and resoldered the new gauze, I cheated in places by using epoxy resin too. This is the original part. All the bits stripped. The finished article.
  15. Hoping everything will work out ok, I think they had planned for this to happen a number of years ago too, but something went wrong and it was cancelled. I for one will endeavour to do a bit more wandering when the Lanc is scheduled to arrive, would like to know whether it'll be flying from Coningsby or elsewhere. Will have to ask a few questions.
  16. Otherwise known as the Amiens prison raid. Seventy years ago Grp Capt Pickard led a force of 19 Mosquitos against the prison to release important members of the French Resistance held captive there. The raid was a success, and led to the unfortunate loss of 2 aircraft, including that of Pickard and his navigator, Alan Broadley.
  17. I think there are two types of filter, manufactured by British Filters and Tecalemit. The filter you have is for the British Filters one, which Marcus has on his website MG322. You can also check which is which by the filter head, the BF type has a rounded shape, whilst the Tecalemit is more chunky. Just found a pic of a British filter head unit. hope this helps
  18. Great restoration job there. It's good to see the Dizzy T coming back to life. Well done, keep up the good work.
  19. It looks to me to have an old railway/steam train appearance.
  20. There's some in Australia http://www.timvibert.com.au/index.php?page_id=155&category_id=118&category_linktext=British%20Vehicles
  21. I didn't think there was that much worth bidding on either, looked more like a tat sale to me, but then one man's rubbish is anothers treasure.
  22. E-petition already signed, always try to have a wander round the airfield after going to a Withams tender.
