  1. Hi Mick. Its re the fuel tank, anyway I can contact you to discuss. Regards
  2. Hi Laura Again nice to hear from a female with a interest in WW2, have you or your team ever been to ex USAAF bases of WW2, as I understand a lot are haunted. You are correct, more should be done to preserve buildings of that era. Regards.
  3. Hello. Remove the propshaft, 2 U bolts & 4 nuts, you aready have you drive shafts removed, assumed you have drained the oil, if not then drain, remove the nuts which secure the diff. unit to the axle casing, they should be 14mm or 17mm spanner size, just beware as the unit is heavy, you may need to break seal to casing, then withdraw from the casing, again suggest 2 people carry out this operation. Do you have a workshop manual?, the setting of the crown wheel backlash is important, the part you have already removed, suggest you find a mechanic to help you with this. Don't give up, it will work out o/k in the end.
  4. Sorry to tell you this, you should have removed the diff unit complete from the front, removed the broken part, and refitted diff. unit. You will now have to remove, as the backlash needs to be set up, impossible in this postion, your mechanic will tell you this If this was the early unit, small crownwheel, I think the broken part could have been knocked out without diff. unit removal. The later unit large crownwheel, its not possible to knock the broken part through. Good Luck
  5. Picture of my Carryall, still getting the hang of pasting pictures!
  6. Hello I spent some years restoring a WC53 Carryall, which included complete brake overhaul, now I did purchase a new wheel cylinder from a dealer, this cylinder just leaked fluid from the seals, in fact it poured out. I had far more success in honing the wheel cylinders, and also the master cylinder and replacing fitting new seals, I have been running the Carryall since October 2004, the brakes have give me no problem. I assume the fluid is leaking by the seals on your Dodge/ I also have a lot of spare take off hubs, complete with studs, Regards IMG]http://i25.photobucket.com/albums
  7. Thats fine Mick, I will organise the tank, Regards Shopnut.
  8. Hi Mick, re the fuel tank, if you are interested I can obtain a cargo truck fuel tank with brackets, large filler and do a straight swop with your tank, brackets etc.., let me know if you are o/k with this. Regards Shopnut.
  9. Hi Jack. Picture of the interior, with the previous owners gear still there, the wooden drawers are a post war addition, I think. The truck was bought in the UK, but it came originally from Norway, there are a couple being advertised on Milweb, but they have the Swiss army van body, a post war conversion, unless anyone can say different. It will take me ages to finish, spent 8 years on a Dodge WC53 Carryall, but thats another story. Just realised this is not the picture it should be, a little problem with photobucket I suspect, this picture gives the manufactures detail of the workbenches.
  10. Thanks Jack for helping with the pictures, but it seems to be playing up tonight otherwise I would have posted interior shots. Yes I am glad it was not a camper. In answer to other forum replies, this is one of the reasons I bought it, its in good condition, for its age, little serious rust, original benches/metal drawers in van body, 10 really good bar treads, split axles with demountable brake drums, but realised there would be a lot of other work. If the brakes had been sorted, tuned up the engine it could have been run straight away, but I am a little fussy, just like things to be right, like the remade fuel tank, I am now in the process of finding a original tank, nothing wrong with the present tank but.................. Keep you posted.
  11. This a shop van I bought back in April last year, it was supposed to have been restored, but I am starting again. I have only had the engine running a couple times, once to load on transporter and to take it off and put in a building, fitted all new plug leads, plugs points etc., but know will not start, found the battery leads in very poor condition, have now just replaced these and fitted a master switch above the spare wheel. The truck has no brakes, due to previous owner removing master cylinder and the 3rd axle wheel cylinders. Although it has a closed cab, the chassis number of 353-359616-1, which I think was made in 1944 with a open can cab, suspect the closed cab was fitted on a rebuild in Waiblingen Ordanance Rebuild Shop Feb. 1953. It still retains the original benches and metal drawers in van body. Will post more pictures at a later date, always looking for shop van parts. PS I lost the cover on the front van body, above passenger seat, whilst transporting home, probaly on the M25, if any one found it, would like it back !!!!!!
  12. Hi Mick. Thanks for the photos, did not realise you were changing the tank, would like to have a deal on this tank with all the brackets etc, the tank holds fuel o/k, no leaks?, just let me know when you are ready. Regards Shopnut.
  13. Hi Mick, would there be a chance you could take a picture of the fuel tank, on your shop van, I am trying te see how the stone guard beneath the tank attaches. My shop van had a fuel tank made for it, which does not include the stone guard, I may have found a original tank but not the guard, any help would be appreciated. Regards Shopnut
  14. ISBN number l- 57488-302-x. Published by Brassey's Inc. Their web site http://www.brasseysinc.com Interesting fact from the book, Whitney Houstons father John R Houston drove on the Red Ball Express.
  15. Hi Mick Are you taking the engine out to replace the fibre timing gear?, or are there other problems. Just let me know when you have any body parts surplus to requirments, thanks on that. Spent all morning just trying to replace the battery leads on my shop van, Norweigians were cheap skates on this, too small & poor quality. Will follow your progress. Regards.
  16. Hi Mick, I also have a ex Norway shop van, closed cab, if you were going to cut the body around to make the Clubmobile, any parts that become surplus, could we have a deal, I was hoping it might have the original heater system inside, but as mine long gone. Did you see the French Clubmobile at Beltring, looked pretty good. Thanks
  17. Hello Mick, nice truck, are you going to cut the body to the exact style of the shop mobile?, was it just a empty van body.
  18. At this time I keep 2 MV's at work and 1 in a barn, have only space for a car at home, work is always difficult, I could be asked to move them out at any time. What else do you do when your passion is the bigger trucks?, sure I am not alone with this.
  19. Any one out there going this event next July, its proposed to drive from Utah Beach 9th July and finishing up at Bastogne 23rd July, stopping over at a couple places on the way. Its retracing Pattons Third Army Route on the actual Road to Liberty, as already stated Utah Beach to Bastogne. Will be a good road run for a Jimmy................
  20. Hi Jack, really love my CCKW's, still have 2 to date, always had one in ownership since around 1989, but in 1996 I decided to buy a Dodge WC53 Carryall, easy restoration and all parts supplied by the sellar/dealer, wrong on both accounts, took 8 years to restore and a huge parts cost, but I would not like to part with it, now back what I am used to, the CCKW.
  21. O/K you guys, where do you think all those CCKW,s ended up, as they do not have any in the U.S., perhaps to Europe on a lease program??
  22. Thanks Richard, in fact I did see a servo on a stall at Beltring this year, it looked like it might fit a CCKW, the dealer said it was for a Ferret, I think this is the way to go.
  23. Has anyone out there found a modern replacement for the CCKW brake servo?, the originals and kits to repair them seem more and more difficult to find.
