  1. Hi Looking at storage for 2 CCKW,s plus trailers, would also need access to carry out maintenance, ideally in West Suffolk/Essex. Its a long shot, but if you dont ask.................... Thanks in advance.
  2. Check out Wheels & Tracks, No 22, interesting artical on CCKW airborne trucks.
  3. Can anyone out there identify this Delco Remy generator, well thats what I think it is, the red plaque has the following stamped no's Model 1177404. Serial 332. 24 Volts. The generator appears to be new and never used, still has protective cardboard around shaft. Thanks in advance.
  4. Just a note this is the later dash, with rotary light switch and no blackout lamp switch as this function is included in the rotary switch, the earlier dash with push pull light switch was a little different lay out. Hope this helps.
  5. Hanno, no problem, if I find anything I will let you know. Regards Rob
  6. David, the donor cab is not mine, it is restorable but needs a higher level of skill to repair then what I have, it will probaly be restored by the owner, one of the bad areas is the screen aperture, so much has corroded away. As previous, the red cab, ex French was far better, much less corrosion but been modifed by the French hence I needed parts from the green cab, ex Dutch, now starting to repair the donor parts, dash panel seemed a good place to start!.
  7. Thank you Hanno, over 12000 euros for a GMC in the 50's, wonder what the concripts thought?, I only have parts of this cab, I bought just a closed cab, and and stripped another cab, the Dutch one, of the internal parts needed to restore the other, which was ex French, Dutch cab was badly corroded and would have needed a lot more work, where as the French cab was a lot better condition but had been modified for the Fire Service, hence I needed internal parts, will upload a picture later. There is a nice airportable CCKW for sale on Milweb, which is ex Dutch, and still in Dutch configuration, but at £8000! Regards Rob
  8. Thanks for info on the dash lettering, have now found more on the drivers side above the instruments, there are 2 lines, the top on is faint, difficult to read but best guess is DIT ?OEPTOIN, the second line is KOST H 27000, which I think is all correct. Thanks in advance
  9. Probaly a question our Dutch friends could answer, anyone know the meaning of the lettering on this hard cab dash?, this truck was ex Dutch army, just like to know prior cleaninging off to restore the panel. It reads 124 BOSDEPOT Thanks in advance.
  10. Following is a e-mail from the Haverhill History Group, requesting military vehicles on the Saturday, it is short notice, at present I think they have around 4 to 5 vehicles so far. To mark the 90th anniversary of the unveiling of the town's war memorial, Haverhill are staging a Remembrance Festival at the Arts Centre (Town Hall) on Fri 29th and Sat 30th October. There will be a wide variety of displays and performances throughout the two days, all on a board theme of Remembrance, and we will of course be launching our Poppy Appeal.. We are also having a number of outside attractions including a small display of military vehicles on Haverhill Market Hill on Saturday 30th Oct. We have three vehicles promised so far but could accommodate perhaps up to ten if any of your members were willing to attend. The Market Square, in the centre of town next to the church, is available from 8.30am to 4pm and measures some 30m x 15m. We appreciate this is very short notice, which is down to me and delays getting permission from the Council to use the area, but if you could circulate this to your members I'd be very grateful.
  11. Hi The stake post in the picture is welded to the body, but would not a U.S. manufacture been spot welded? The crossmembers under the body, I understand U.S. WW2 were tapered from above the chassis to the outer sill where as european manufacture were straight? Interesting topic.
  12. Any chance of posting the factory pictures of the CCKW conversion to airportables? Regards
  13. The '7' set in my CCKW has a pully block manufactured by Yale, would anybody know where I could obtain service/operating manuals from? Have tried searching the net, but unable to find anything.
  14. It is a pain, really bought the truck to use, its now turned into a mini restoration, hoping I can get my money if I do decide to sell, although having to do all this work probaly end keeping it and probaly fit a hard cab I have in restoration, yours also a sad story, guess its some you lose some you win.
  15. Yes the photo is well known to me, Clive was the one talking about recreating this photo, would it be possible to find 2 WC54's to match those colours though? If you drive the road from Ashen to Clare, a small back road, its easy to see that background, if I ever drive that way, it reminds me of this picture, in fact I have driven that road just for that purpose!!, sad or what.
  16. It was only a joke, turning around the 7 set, transmission jack is all I have, works quite well and its a concrete base, just need to ensure what you are lifting is secured well to jack. Really need to move the truck outside now and steam clean in the chassis, much easier when gearbox and transfer box is removed. All good fun, now when is Beltring................
  17. Just a update, gearbox and clutch removed, found radial springs broken and disc material near to rivets and breaking up. Release bearing carrier screws all finger tight, one had the head missing and another head came off whilst removing, this is probaly the source of a another oil leak. Decided to remove transfer box, just as well as one mounting bolt was broken, yet to remove the broken part from case, and been broken for sometime judging by the rust around the mounting, another was loose. As I now have another box, which requires work to two of the mounting bolt threads and also have the new bearings to repair box just removed, will probaly do the latter. Degsy, it would be easier to use overhead gantry, but I do not have that option, although truck has 7 set fitted, I could always unbolt and turn around, have gantry over cab, now thats a thought............
  18. Picture was taken at Ridgewell, Essex, 381st Bomb Group. This picture was going to be recreated, be nice to see that happen.
  19. At this rate it will never make it out of the yard!!
  20. Just a update, as the bearings failed to arrive for the transfer box, I decided to remove the pan below the clutch, as nice surprise here, broken radial springs from the clutch disc, must have made some noise as the pan is damaged where these broken springs become jammed between the pan and flywheel, gearbox now to be removed. Then I thought I would look at the excess movement in P.S. trackrod pin, decided to remove wheel for better access only to find one stud turns in hub!, have started to cut off nut hope to try and save stud, as demountable drum fitted once wheel removed, can remove drum and hopefully rectifi with removing hub, when laying under there I thought those brake shoe anchor bolt nuts look look loose, sure enough they were finger tight! and the drivers side is the same. Happy days, just why did I buy this 'Heep'?
  21. And what warranty may that be ?? and just as well I did not take notice of your ' go on drive it home ' message!!
  22. I have used brake drums at £5.00 each, if they may be of use to you.
  23. Decided to try and remove rear cover without removing transfer box, managed to do this after spending some 30 mins. cutting through the very top bolt with a not so sharp hacksaw blade!, as it fouled the crossmember, once the head was cut off I was able to remove the cover, gears and bearings I can see all look ok, so the plan is to replace those top bearings only and reassemble, although it may be tricky putting the cover back on, the bolt I cut off will be replaced with a shorter one.
  24. Truck is on level ground, concrete, and I have a commercial transmission jack, just need to make a bracket to secure the box to the jack. I will strip down first, would like to think its just the output bearings that are the problem, we will see this Friday/Saturday.
