1. Could anyone help with information on the 85mm gun fitted to the T34, looking to find how the loading-unloading mechanism works, any help would be appreciated, even English printed manuals.

Thanks in advance.

2. Up to chassis 13187 (approx) all GMC trucks were CCKWX, 353 short and long chassis, it was after this the SWB changed to 352, the other point, is the chassis number was stamped in the frame forward of the axle.

I once owned 9991 chassis, stamped forward of the axle and was a 353.

Out of interest, is the nomemclare plate still in the cab?

Good Luck

3. I'm hoping that HMVF members can help me solve a problem with the headlights on my 1942 GMC CCKW 353 B2. It's been very well restored (not by me!) and I'd like to keep it as original as possible - it's still 6 volt, for example.

Recently, one of the sealed beam headlight units 'died' and it seems they're not easily available any more. Rex Ward was kind enough to suggest changing to the easily available Lucas LUB322 light unit and LLB423 light bulb and with a bit of fettling they fitted perfectly, are brighter and still look right! Sadly, in the middle of my celebrations, one stopped worknig and then the second one did the same. I've refitted the one good sealed beam unit and this doesn't work, so I'm thinking fuse / circuit breaker, but where is it? Do I have to take the instrument panel out to get at it? (I hope not!)

Any helpful ideas gratefully received!

Peter

Also worth checking that the lamp unit has a good earth connection, have been caught out by this in the past.

4. It was a long while ago now since I posted this, I did look one year at W & P Show, a brake servo which I think was for a Ferret, it was on a dealers stand, NOS, and thought that could fit a CCKW, but after taking advice, was told it probaly would not suitable, although since then I did wonder if this was correct, has anyone out there fitted a Ferret servo to a CCKW?, or even tried and found for whatever reasons it was a no go?

Has anyone out there found a modern replacement for the CCKW brake servo?, the originals and kits to repair them seem more and more difficult to find.
5. Gentlemen

Can I ask you to take a deep breath and indulge the mechanical novice that I am :n00b:. :help:

Brace yourself to provide some advise on the subject of CCKW brakes...

After 5 weeks of inactivity I started the truck this lunchtime (it's not at home currently) and was giving it a check over in preparation for possibly bringing it home this weekend. I only had a narrow time window so there wasn't going to be time to run it around, but I thought I'd move it backwards and forwards a bit and exercise the brakes.

Given that the brakes were fine when I used it last, I was completely taken aback when my foot went to the floor..

Did this three times, with the engine note changing each time towards the end. I then rev'd the engine up whilst at the same time pumping the brake pedal. This firmed up to when it would normally, but as soon as I backed the revs off, the pedal went back to the floor again. That said even with the pedal on the floor I could feel that there is some breaking activity happening as I very slowly moved the vehicle backwards and forwards. There are no fluid leaks apparent.

Like I say I didn't have time to get into it today, but I intend to return tomorrow. Again time may be limited, and I won't have any tools with me, so what easy things can I start looking into. I will have my phone, so can take pics/video.

Any thoughts / ideas would be much appreciated.

Kind regards to all

Ian (aka Vulture)

P.S. Here's a pic of the old girl earlier in the year with a rather nice add-on :-)

Have you checked the brake fluid level in the master cylinder?, if not suggest you start here, if the level is low and you can see no apparent leak, as Howard states the fault could be with the servo.

Good Luck

6. Hello All.

We are in the process of removing the continuous rubber tracks from a Cletrac, but uncertain of how to remove them, the question is, has anyone out removed tracks from a Cletrac and be prepared to offer advice or know of a technical manual which covers this operation, not the maintenance manual, which is just a basic operators manual.

Please pm if you can help.

Thanks in advance.

7. Can`t see picture either , but early GMC , Chev`s had the side stakes from steel , and top wood . later it went on to be 3 pieces wood and 2 metal corners . M series trucks also had wooden stakes.

Have now loaded the picture, at last!!, the truck the metal posts are on has just come from Holland.

8. Don't forget the supports for the slats and seats are steel and then the hood bow legs slide inside those which are in turn inside the bed side pockets !!

But without the pic I don't know what I am on about :D

Thanks, will try again and upload a picture, it becomes very clear then, I am fairly certain the metal posts are from the M35 series of trucks, if they are, there could be a set for sale.

9. The stake posts on this cargo body are steel, I think they could be from the 'M' series truck? Anyone agree with this as I have not seen on a CCKW before, stake posts are normally made out of wood.

10. from what i could make out when on one of the many calls with VAT, vehicles over a certain age (possibly pre 73) are exempt from VAT if coming from within the EU, if its come from outside the EU you don't need to do a NOVA, providing you have the import paperwork.

but of course you didn't pay very much for the vehicle anyway, did you;).

Well it looks good news on the Nova front, completed online form last night, after submission, had more or less a confirmation straight back stating no VAT to pay and no late notification fine, and can now go ahead and register truck, although not sure if they send a paper confirmation or DVLC check online.

Thanks for advice on this.

11. Just noticed from the bottom from your post you have a new arrival - congratulations!!

Dare I suggest it depends on the circumstances of how your vehicle got into the UK, whether you have any documentation, and the individual who processes your application?

Thanks Tony, just hope I dont live to regret it with these new HMRC rules.

12. I have used both methods, the online service is quicker as long as you have access to it . To get paper copy just call the National VAT helpline and request a NOVA 1 form. i used the paper version for my Bedford and included a covering letter explaining the circumstances.

Managed to log on to their online service, started filling in the form, just a little concerned that I could be charged VAT?

13. Just to add to Degsy reply, its important when installing wheels to ensure mating faces are clean, free from dirt and paint, painting the mating faces is a big no no in the commercial vehicle industry, due to wheels becoming loose/coming off soon after a new truck was delivered.

Would always recommend a walk round check prior to taking vehicle on the road.

14. the process was not too bad in the end, two of the vehicles i have just done were imported from france a couple of years ago but it did not cause any problems, they seem to be processing the NOVA's in about 10 days at the moment.

What method did you use to contact HMRC?, as their online service looks difficult and where would you obtain a paper form?

15. Have also received paperwork from local DVLA office, and like you discovered the new rules, HMRC should be notified within 14 days, I have exceeded that!, I fear after reading this forum it will be a nightmare.............................

Anybody had dealings with the new dvla/hmrc "nova" check? Came in to force last month apparently.

I have been to dvla to register my Bedford, all went well but I received the paperwork back yesterday with a letter stating I need to do a "nova" (notification of vehicle arrival). Seems a bit odd as it was built in the uk and has never left!

So I go on line to complete the process but can't as the program does not cater for vehicles that are from the uk! It's specifically for imports!! You also need to be registered on the hmrc gateway system to use the program.

I feel a long phone call on hold will be today's task, probably eventually getting through to a Computer!
