I will have a look although at the moment I am wondering if it is possible to get any carbon/graphite or whatever was used for the original seal then attempt to make another keeping the pump original. I have read that these seals usually failed where the pin that drives them fits. This is what has happened to mine but for the amount of time the engine will run should not be an issue.

I have joined the forum as I discovered it when searching for parts for my Nuffield M4 tractor around 1950 vintage. This apparently uses a similar engine to vehicles owned by some members on here although I am not sure if they run on paraffin. There is plenty of work to do on this tractor as I recently bought it with my heart rather than my head. The first issue is the water pump, which leaks like a sieve. I was surprised and delighted to find a photo of almost the same pump on this forum. The thread quoted a company who repair these pumps and I have spoken to them. Unfortunately and quite understandably they only repair and do not sell parts. This is a shame as I like to try to do everything myself. According to a tractor dealer who sells parts the water pump body is almost impossible to find although they still stock a few impeller housings. My pump was so rusted in the housing that after soaking for a week in a bucket of diesel I could not part it and terrified of breaking the pump I decided to sacrifice the impeller housing. I cut it with an angle grinder then machined the remaining bits off in a lathe. So now that I have it apart I am wondering what my options are, if I could find a mechanical seal I could attempt to fit it but this involves machining both the impeller and the pump body to take the new seal. These of course have their own spring in them and my impeller has a spring in the front which keeps pressure on so it would also mean fixing the shaft solidly with a spacer or something. Therefore to eventually get to the point has anyone any ideas about how I could obtain a carbon seal which I could make fit keeping the pump original and more importantly not modifying the pump.

This has a Morris Commercial ETA engine which must be fitted to some vehicles that you guys own. To my delight and surprise I discovered the almost exact pump pictured in this thread: The thread names and recommends a company who repair these pumps I will post more details about it in the appropriate section.
