  1. The pistons are 0.40. It seems via websites selling spares fot similar engines of Dodges that 0.60 is the biggest they do. So it's looking unlikely I would guess. Shame, but I shall investigate further with a machine shop if I can.
  2. Thanks Chris. Any idea with the valve guides? As the cast part is broken. I have tried my TM manuals but nothing is really mentioned with tolerance for skimming and new pistons.
  3. Hi all. I have never had to undertake a rebore or skim of the block. So can advice be offered? I have a Dodge T112 block as pictured. How much can be skimmed or has this pitting on the block face too far gone? Furthermore, how much is too much in the bores? Lastly, the valve insert into the block on the upper face has partially cracked in one or two valve ports and broken a piece in another. Is this repairable or game over? Many thanks Paul https://ibb.co/gF0zDGW https://ibb.co/z7vsjVL https://ibb.co/fHPNtQb https://ibb.co/N9s0Yj1
  4. Apologies Bob. I did run off on a tangent, but actually edited and removed it, somehow it didn't save. We all have view and yes, this is not the place for that. Sorry to offend.
  5. Unfortunately there are permanent and temporary export licences. If you have, for example, a military land rover, to go to France you are legally required to have a temporary export licence. Many I am sure do not know, but it may risk vehcile loss or many tears if enforced. For me to take a vehicle on a temporary basis to Germany I needed a licence. Also for the trailer as that's of military origin. So, in theory if this was actually enforced, as I'm sure it will be more, it could in theory stop vehciles without correct paperwork. http://www.milweb.net/features/military_vehicle_export_licence.ph As for being ruled by one Brussels government, it isn't quite like that, even now each country has their own rules for vehicle movements, not one enforced rule. See above.
  6. I had to get an export licence just to take vehicles out of the UK! That's before all this nonsense starts, so if that is the same for any vehicle of military origin or use it will likely be the same entering, as the current ruling would be lost. So I would guess vehicles would also be hugely difficult to get into the country for the show.
  7. I do miss catching up with friends, but that's about it. The same gripes will always be there, as the organiser doesn't really have to listen; until it's too late. Now living on the mainland there are far better shows for spares for vehicles (Ciney, etc). I suspect Brexit will bring import licences for vehicles, which take time to apply for. Also, as Enigma mentioned, traders may well not risk the booking of crossings in advance because of the uncertainty. I wonder how much that will effect WP. As if you removed 20% of EU attendance it would be very sparsely attended. I also wonder how that would effect spares for military vehciles, as if you take WW2 American stock vehcile spares they all originate in the USA, or France and Netherlands. It's food for thought.
  8. One deciding factor which will be a huge issue for WP, without sounding political (let's not turn this into views of such choices, just the realistic outcome): Brexit. Next year may see a huge lack of anything from mainland Europe. Traders, vehicles, spares, all may have very real issues coming. More so with import/export licensing possibly handled in a new format, hindering movement. I'll be interested to see how that effects things.
  9. I have a Dodge wc54 ambulance if you're interested? https://ibb.co/0KGhDMt https://ibb.co/VHByYkC Cant seem to insert pictures, so used a free host as above. It's 1944, very clean. Recent restoration and heading on Milweb this week.
  10. I guess any show has a bad egg. Even Normandy 2019 was dampened for me a touch by camping near some people who assumed a WW2 event means you can wear desert 95s and drive a fictional 109 Land Rover WMIK fantasy piece and a GS Land Rover with more aerials that GCHQ and less radios than an indigenous tribe in the Congo, vocally despise "foreigners", in France and get upset why their Land Rovers cannot participate in a WW2 vehicle run? Reminds me of the caravans and best of Ford Van's displays at modern war and peace. I brought a military radio to display, and two RVs and a caravan! I digress, but rules are rules. No Tax/MOT/insurance no movements on site! Simple as that. Enforce it, or potentially lose it all, that includes the show.
  11. I have used a copper washer, as I could not source a dowty seal fast. Appears to have done the trick, but I'm waiting 24 hours before I proceed. Just to make sure it's not weeping. Thanks for advice. I guess it's pretty obvious really, but when a unit comes with a union installed right from new, you dont expect to have to remove it and put a washer in!
  12. Good idea! I guess that wasn't in my chain of thought, mostly as it wasn't supplied with the unit I guess!
  13. Hi all. I have had a few recent issues with reproduction parts, which I suspect are chinese cheap copies- the problem being keeping the fluid on the inside of the unit. They have required a union on the fluid exit port, which enables ½ pipe and unions to fit, a converter basically. This is stainless steel and threads into the master cylinder, but will not stop weeping. I have tried tightening, and again more, but I'm at the stage the unit will crack soon. Has anyone used any form of compound on threads such as these to assist in a seal, such as loctite 270? Which appears on the tech-spec to be fluid proof? I'm aware this isn't common practice, I'm just throwing it to the forum for ideas? The union I mean is on the right side of the picture with the black bung in. Please note this picture is reference and not from the store in question.
  14. Challenger 2 MBT. Or at least the NSN correlates to that Oops! There were no replies shown or I would not have been the late commer.
  15. Hi. I'm after a full soft top kit for my 110. Canvas/PVC cover, stick set, from door and screen mounts, and the seat belt bar and fixings. Also the rear tailgate. My 110 was a soft top but later in its military career it somehow was given a hardtop. So it does have all the external tie downs etc.. Does anyone have one spare, or would like to trade for a hardtop and good condition rear door? Thanks Paul
  16. I have had various people argue with me and be very assertive that as they were older they knew what they are talking about. I guess as I owned a Humber Pig at 21 years old it somehow got peoples back up! I had many classics said to me: "..course, it's based on a Land Rover...". Er, no, not at all. "Ah, a saracen, I drove these..". Excuse me, its actually a Humber Pig.. "What the F@@@ do you know, boy?". How charming some people are! "I had one, mine weighed over 10 tonnes as was uparmoured". Really? Was it full of scrap steel and bags of ballast? "I drove one of these in Iraq" I guess he was lost and took the wrong turn at the Antrim lights? "Of course, this isn't a real one". No, it is total fantasy and I made it from plywood! Saying that, I had the same with most vehicles.
  17. It's more the lack of display and displaying a caravan and van between displays that people have put their all in to. White goods in one area, green in another. Easy. Or like it was, cover it or screen it.
  18. You could always buy a bulk lot of coloured festival wrist bands on Ebay then have a friend instruct you the appropriate colour of entry this year. And low and behold, you're in! Just drive your vehcile in and wave your wrist at the security. I dont condone this, obviously, but I'm sure it would work very well.
  19. I saw the typo! No coming back from that one! Lol
  20. It was my last WP last year. I shan't return. It's too expensive, features too many caravans and citroen vans with UN taped on, and has lost the atmosphere for me. I have been to several military shows, here in Germany, and get this: camping was free, and breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided for the vehicle exhibitors! I've heard of other shows providing accommodation and secure parking at nights! Still, £50 isn't much for WP. Actually, what am I thinking, yes it is!
  21. Wildenburg are you best bet, in the Netherlands. I only have old ones spare, and from memory I don't think they can be rebuilt. Paul
  22. Hi all, Can you help? I'm assembling the linkage for handbrake and hi/low on a T214 WC54, but cannot for the life of me work out from the box of provided parts what goes where? There are 3 bolts, a flat plate with shaft, and various extras. Could someone provide a picture of the linkages, as they do not appear in the TM manuals or the Master Parts catalogues; the parts do, the units assembled do not! Thanks in advance Paul
  23. I have used both. JeepDodgeGmc: As stated they don't speak great English so they are slow at responding. Some parts are excellent and others cheap pattern stuff. Overall I do use them, but keep orders large due to postage. Jeepest: A great company to deal with. I met them at Ciney show and they're very helpful. Parts are always good, the only problems I have had is my own fault ordered the wrong part numbers! OverL great, but still subject to French postal costs. I'd add Wildenburg are great to deal with. While not always the cheapest their service is good and are always very knowledgeable and helpful. Willysjeep.be: I've not been impressed with their stuff, its usually wrong and we are still waiting a wrong part exchange 3 months later! But they were very cheap. I guess you work out which dealer works best for you, and then I generally stick with them. While you may pay a little more you receive a service you can reply on, and that's worth more to me. Paul
  24. I have contacted Jaguar Land Rover and they will provide a date of build certificate for £30. So £14 saving over the heritage link; just in case anyone else in the future wants similar information. Thanks guys, let's hope it was built before June 1989! So I can register it as an oldtimer!
  25. Ah, yes, the heritage thing looks promising. Does anyone have any experience with one of those?
