  1. Hi Steve, bending the hinges hot or cold? A bit of a sweat either way. One a a few incredible restorations / recreations on here. peter
  2. Mmmm… good weather for a dukw (or a schwimmwagen) or at least your hood up : )
  3. Ouch! logical progression is that they’ll insure you (third party) only if you never take it out of the garage..taking risk averse to a whole new level? Maybe their computer can’t quantify the risk. So how do service personnel get insurance for their personal transport? I was once asked if the winch on the front of my Defender would make it go faster? Yes, if I removed it! good luck in the hunt for a sane insurer.
  4. My old 80” Landie had tracta joints. Best thing ever, but then with only 50 bhp it would be hard to break them.
  5. Well, there was a war on…..better a wrong helmet than none : )
  6. Internet seems to be asking 20 to 40 quid depending on condition.
  7. Wartime civil defence - fire guard.Fire watchers & street fire parties. As opposed to AFS or NFS who used Brodie pattern.
  8. Hi Bill, David is correct - Lucas M45G starter motor. 26007A Dennis 2 and 4 ton truck 26008A/B Morris Commercial CV Ambulance 26054A Bedford bus 1946-1950 26055A Bedford 30 cwt, Scammell tractor 1946-1950 26057A ? 26077A Commer 5 and 7 ton If I can trust a 1939-1954 Lucas parts list Peter
  9. Flying goggles and spares now by Halcyon.https://classicpartsltd.com/
  10. Hi roajeep, looks like laminated glass, the laminating film yellows with age. Safer and easiest fix would be clear polycarbonate sheet, also good for “glass” for dashboard instruments. Craft shop would have some in small sheets eg Hobbycraft. There was a repro version of the flying goggles by Stadium, might be same size laminated glass. Used a pair on my series 1 when I had the screen down. Peter
  11. More camouflage than security. You’d have to find it first : ) incredible work by the way. peter
  12. Bearing cap seal would usually be cork : ) with that style of IOE engine, not much room above the piston. A clip of some sorts? How was the head? glad the bits stayed inside! I remember a story about a TA Leyland Sherpa minibus running on 3 cylinders…. Stalled and was tow started. Piston and con rod in the sump! peter

    Old E5 petrol

Sorry but the expressions “only up in the garage for 15 mins” and “Land-Rover” are incompatible (or any other old vehicle). I once drained some 10+ year old petrol from a wartime fire engine. Burned well enough in my old Series one but the smell!

    Old E5 petrol

Gets my vote too. Drain carb float chamber too.
  15. Bridging contacts is a good idea (with care). I’ve seen the moving / fixed contact of a starter solenoid burned clean away. Suppose a push button switch could go the same way. Can you get inside it without doing too much harm? The moving part may just be a copper washer.
  16. Wasn’t there a bombing range on the Wash? wainfleet / Holbeach
  17. There is (or was) an outfit called Brasscraft who seemed to make high end vintage screens. Suspect deep pockets and a persuasive story would be required. Paul Beck vintage supplies the brass extrusions but pulling round corners might be more error than trial and it’s not cheap material for the scrap bin. I’d recommend laminated over toughened. Good hunting Peter
  18. Needing a bent metal valve. you might be able to get a valve extension / extender but remember to remove the valve from the tube, might blow up but won’t be able to deflate. ATB Peter
  19. An interesting parallel with coal and heritage railways, technically easier and safer to store coal but believe the issue will be with a diminishing supply chain. Back to the local chemist for 2 gallon tin(s).
  20. Soft hose on inlet side of turbo? (If there is one) or on raised air inlet if fitted.

    Serious overhead crane envy… : )
  22. Hi Mike, the chassis rails are 3” wide throughout their length (2.2 mm in your money) Best to photographically scale the drawings as the sizes are intended for straightening bent bits and not helpful for building. Peter
  23. The workshop manual had drawing of chassis that could be scaled to your size. The 80” (wheelbase) is pretty much same footprint as Jeep. 10’ long and 5’ wide. That’s the one you have as image. The 86” was about 8” longer and the 88” about 10’ (and about 4” wider). The British motor industry heritage trust, Gaydon, may have drawings or you could befriend an owner and do som measuring… Happy measuring Peter
