Hi just  pick this engine up  fairly sure it’s a WD  Engine  but it has no frame number or not in the usual place ?

Looks like it’s V1236 at the back of the  Engine and I think it’s 4107  over the top  where the magneto Cover gos  it’s had a few modifications and I will have to change  them but if you can shed any light on the markings it would be much appreciated

    Thanks Ant

      Hi Ant,

Thanks for sharing! Well, this looks like a military spare engine to me (true engine number V1238, but no duplicated frame number on the usual place). Judging by the true engine number, this must have been a spare engine that was delivered with contract S/1945. And when I compare this true engine number with other entries in my Register, I can tell you that this spare engine was built approximately at the same time as frame number #6000, which means somewhere around January - February 1944.

I have no idea about the number that was stamped close to the magneto...

      Cheers,

      Jan

      Ant

Thank for the information ironically I got this as a spare hopefully I should have the first bike finished soon and the second one it’s not far behind just missing a few last bits and pieces

  6. Thanks again i’ll post some pictures of the two bikes in the new year at the minute the second Frame is being rebuilt fairly sure parts now finish one and a good start on the 43 Ant
  7. Hi I’ve had to stop work on my first WD RE well I have the frame repaired on the second one does anybody know how to work out C number for the second bike The engine number 4818 so should have most of it back a few weeks and able to start painting any help would be much appreciated Ant
  8. Thanks again so at least I know I can put this into the second war department Frame i’ll post some more pictures when I get a bit further along had the crank fully rebuilt and I need to sort out a few repairs on the engine case and frame before I can go any further But at least I know now that it’s compatible with the frame
  9. Ok that’s interesting am I right in thinking it’s been fitted onto a 1943 or 1944 Frame ? As This is the engine I’m going to use for the second WD frame once I have sorted out the rest of parts and some repairs as for the frame hopefully will have that in a the few weeks it looks like it’s got the remains of the original number but won’t know until I cleaned it all up and had a good look thanks again for your help Ant
  10. Thanks Ron I will order a set before they run out
  11. Hi Ron do you think these will fit and look okay in chrome so have to get that removed but I think they are the same size just waiting to hear back from the dealer to confirm the size or I found these in black paint and 5 inches long but not certain on the shape is right or not ?
  12. Hi has Anybody got any information on this engine number I think it’s a 1943 to early 1944 but has no V prefix ? It’s not the best of stampings but from what I can work out it’s 166 and 4818 And it has The usual separate numbers stamped across the front 2257 already had the narrow type crank fully rebuilt for this one so just need to sort out the gearbox now Any help is appreciated Ant
  13. Thanks ron getting quite close to finishing the first one at least now I know exactly what I am looking for

Thanks, but it's a postwar manual. I haven't had the time to scan my handbooks, but do have the parts list scanned I believe.

      Cheers, Lex
