  1. Had a bit of time free this last weekend so finally got round to making a convoy light reflector plate Not sure its 100% accurate, but once installed on the axle, should look the part!
  2. Had a bit of time last weekend so finished off the woodwork, had to trim down a lot of coach bolt but now happy with how it looks The mud guards need some work on them before being ready to bolt back on but next job will be to get some paint on it
  3. Hi Ray, yes I will once I get the paint on, give me a few weeks
  4. I bought a box of 10 off ebay for £3.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293502270179
  5. That's my take as well. I just wired my trailer up using twin cable that plugs into the jeep (British convoy light) taking both positive and negative to the trailer bulbs, no chassis earth
  6. Agreed, round headed slots down the edges Countersunk for the skid plates All with lovely whitworth hex bolts...
  7. Details, details, details... I noticed when looking at photo's I took as I was dismantling the trailer that the side frontboard and skid plate bolts had hex nuts, not square. Both of these areas use machine screws, round head or recessed, rather than coach bolts... Could I live with this? Turns out, no! I've used M6 coach bolts and nuts throughout, but M6 hex nuts are far to small so I had to find Whitworth machine screws and nuts Done now, so I can breath again! I do wonder sometimes..!
  8. Front dropboard now completed. I've got to say I'm happy with the results..!
  9. Progressing on the trailer when I can Plenty of woodworking skills coming to hand again.. lots of test fitting and fettling! Test fitting the rear upright before welding
  10. They look a bit like the springs inside the 10CWT trailer hitches https://hmvf.co.uk/topic/18884-british-ww2-10-cwt-gs-trailer/?do=findComment&comment=245144
  11. Also, lots on the wiring. I believe this was mostly done post war, but I still think it looks good The original wiring was still on it when I got it but rotten through, I've simply replaced the wire, NOS lights, junction box and switches Tested it all last night on a 12v battery, all working as expected, well happy!
  12. I've managed a few evenings working on the trailer, got the brakes and linkage back on I only have one brake return spring. Does anyone have a spare or can anyone advise on what I should be looking for when ordering a replacement?
  13. Welcome Kay Was posted in Lippstadt in the 80s as well as Wildenrath and Rheindahlen in the 90s, very happy times! Great setup you have there
  14. 18 months+ since I have been able to look at the trailer. Last weekend I finally got to take the cover off and mover it back into the garage.. The timber and pot noodle pots were there to help the cover not to wear too badly..!
  15. Good to see some progress Chris, keep them coming..
  16. Not sure my Mrs would be too pleased if I turned up with this! Just noticed this on Witham auction website: https://bid.mod-sales.com/auctions/8247/witham10131/lot-details/4b85c535-55cd-4a79-a8fc-aecb00cbc6c0
  17. Life does seem to get in the way of these projects Chris! Good to see some progress though Keep them coming!
  18. What a great piece of work! Great thread, looking forwards to the next updates..!
  19. I'm looking forwards to a good digout again, missed it..! See you there..
  20. Only came across this thread this morning... a good read and great work..!
  21. Just to further the acronyms here, where you had a SCRA(T) with the Clansman, that was Combat Network Radio Interface, (CNRI), this enable Clansman radio networks to talk back onto Ptarmigan
  22. From memory, SCRA(T) = Single Channel Radio Access (Terminal) meaning it was the terminal equipment... basically, a mobile phone mounted in a land rover!
  23. What you have is an armoured Radio Relay (RR) vehicle that would been part of a Secondary Access Node (SAN) along with a Second Access Switch and Message Centre (SAS/MC) (Richard Farrant mentions above FV432 Mk2 SAS COMCEN PTAR3 this was known as a SAS/MC). These were used in armoured Signals units across BAOR and the UK, I think the RR was already in existence with the predecessor of Ptarmigan, Bruin, so would have been modified from Bruin to Ptarmigan rather than a completely new vehicle which was the case for the SASMC. From memory, the same radio relay equipment was used, but extra modules to provide more secure and digital comms were added As to the seat, knowing the way the stores worked and the vehicle park, I'd guess the seat may have been accidently swapped with another vehicle? Have you had a good dig around as most of us marked our vehicle registration on anything that could be nicked, regardless of being bolted down or lose! See if you can find 98KF80 or 04FA36 anywhere else? I took part in the field trials of Ptarmigan, in the SAS/MC, back in the early 80s in Blandford, I'll dig out some photos at some point. There is an armoured RR outside the Royal Signals museum in Blandford, you could try contacting them? They may be able to help?
  24. First time I've seen this thread, just read through it while drinking my morning coffee! Outstanding work!
