  1. I was just watching a video by a firearms chap who has been following the latest anti firearm legislation that has passed through parliament.  In its current from is bans the possession of components used in ammunition manufacture.  Thus without some caveats added it bans the possession of brass cases, bullet and primers.  I’m sure it is unintended but this would ban the ownership of all wartime brass cases and inert ammo.  One to watch out for as ignorance is no excuse as we all know when it comes to an overzealous policeman.

  2. My Dad uses a electric de-humidifier out in his wood workshop, as anything metal used to get covered in condensation in the winter months.  He tells me it did the trick but you have to remember to empty the tray regularly.

Its not just because your WOT is outside, my Loyd is in a modern uninsulated building and it was dripping with condensation in the days that the weather warmed up before xmas.

  3. The armour contract cards just cover the placement of a contract by the government with the manufacturer and will state when the contract was fulfilled and if it was actually cancelled before any vehicles were produced.  Not consulting these leads to erroneous vehicle production numbers being banded about...for generations!

The Loyd Carrier is a case in point.  Everyone uses the Chilwell census number blocks which show Ford built 7660 ish machines across two contracts, in actual fact, consulting the contract cards shows that the second order was cancelled before production even began and the first order was cancelled once 4200 machines had been built.

  4. Were the 20" split rims used on 3 ton lorries a standard universal part that fitted all 3 toners or were they manufacture specific?  I'm thinking rim width, offset etc..  I need some for a WOT6 and when I am searching through a huge pile of random old British wheels with only a tape measure I'd like to know if finding a 20" 8 stud split rim guarantees its what I am looking for!

  5. Thanks to a chance encounter over Seamus's search for a WOT6 crown wheel and pinion I have picked up a WOT6 to have as a back burner project while I complete the Loyd Carrier.  Lots of knowledge crossover between the two vehicles due to the Fordson hardware used in the Loyd design.  I've started a Youtube series just like the one I occasionally update for the Loyd Carrier.  Thanks again for the info Seamus.

PS. I apologise for the very brief video, the next part will be a more substantial length.

Also started a facebook page as a hub for WOT6 info as I gather it.

  6. That Loyd was found in France back in 2012, it was moved to England around that time and sat in a collection near Portsmouth, this year to was brought by a friend of mine and transported to his workshop for restoration.

I have some parts from it in my garage at the moment!

  7. Hi All,

I'm on the look out for four New Old Stock British Bonnet spring straps, there appears to be lots of different names for these assemblies, but the one in question is for a Loyd Carrier.  I remember a few years ago on one of the WW1 lorry restoration threads a NOS one was unpacked to use and it was just the same as the type I'm after if I recall.  There are various modern versions but none the same as this.

    Dimensions:

Spring dia: 3/4", Spring length (inc wire ends): 4 1/2"

See photo below, thanks in advance.

I have been reading through this thread of a great restoration  and came across this post.

My father was involved in this  salvage operation at Redcar  and the photo below is of the two ' carriers'  used .

He is the chap  seated in carrier on far right  . His brother is perched on top of the carrier. All the men were Redcar fishermen.

Major Morrell is stood in the middle , I have a lot more info on  operation this if  of any interest.

I would be interested to know exactly what type  carriers they were.

The one closest the camera is a USA T16 and the other is probably a normal Universal Carrier.  Thanks for posting, more info would be nice.
