the one i fitted to the drops had a 12" deep subframe fitted on the owners request. I wanted to go with 6" but customer gets what the customer wants. Small world the cab of the gear your fitting is now on the foden i took my gear of
I did wonder why the one you fitted had such a deep subframe, I'm thinking of about 4"-5" subframe and looking at fitting 16.00 20 wheels/tyres if i find a set at reasonable cost (any body got a set???) anything more than this and I will struggle to reach into the lockers. I knew you had the yellow cab Steven, to be honest I never thought I would get the same gear again after I missed out on the gear you had offered to me, small world it is!!

  4. I managed to remove power steering ram off the Militant for repair without too much hassle, What about slacken the ram taper pin nut until it is flush with end of pin threads so as not to cause unwanted damage, place a bottle jack base onto something solid like leaf spring or chassis rail so as the bottle jack sits horizontal pump jack until the top of the jack is now pushing onto the nut on the taper pin, apply an amount of pressure with the jack and then strike/shock the drop arm eye, hopefully with the pressure from the jack and strike/shock the pin will pop out of the drop arm eye, the nut stop's the steering ram falling out and bottle jack lands on the ground. I sometimes use this type of method the remove truck wheels that have rusted on to the hubs.

  5. Hmmm interesting, does this apply to vehicles only being registered for the fisrt time with DVLA???

What if I was to be changing taxation class from snow plough to recovery vehicle (wrecker) on my Scammell S26 document/V5, would this type approval thing apply if I waited until after 29th oct 2014 or am I better off getting the paperwork sorted now while the type approval exemption is still in force??

  6. I have had to carry out a repair to the hi/low range change on the Scammell S26 (Self Load Dump Truck) and now need to fill the gear box up with new oil, what would be the correct grade/type of oil to use in this gear box????.

All I know is its a 9spd fuller but the data plate on the side of box is missing I'm unsure of the exact serial number, but is it the same as the Foden recovery (RTX11609B)

    any help much appreciated

  7. Some photos of the Foden and the Scammell hitching a lift. The journey down was ok until we got to the show field to unhitch and found that one of the retaining R clips in the main lifting pins that goes through the Scammell lifting eye had snapped and the pin was found to have been working its way out :wow::wow:, the R clip was fitted prior to setting off.P1010876.jpg

  8. There he is the man that now owns the Millitant (Julez), good to hear/know your pleased with the purchase.

Nick I'm not sure if I will have any paint codes/numbers but I will check I got two different colors of green satin from Tor Paints a bit from one tin and about twice as much from the other tin to get the color and shade that I wanted, see what I find over next couple days.

Will post up a couple more photos of Foden towing the Scammell S26 to the local show at Corbridge this weekend coming, while on the Scammell note even though this is a Foden thread I'm on the lookout for some winching gear or recovery underlift or both to go on the Scammell if anybody knows of something that may be suitable for the job please PM me thanks

  9. Nick, I had the Militant for around 8 - 10 years or so, but she was sold about 3-4 months ago and now lives near Hastings area, the guy who bought it drove it back home from Northumberland to Hastings 12 hrs :wow: not bad I think with the old girl. I'v been following your progress with yours very good keep goin you'l get to the end eventually.

There was no major reason that the Foden needed to be on the back of the Militant other than a bored Sunday and spare time to play.

  10. Not sure of the Auto box ones but the manual box cruise at approx 40/47 balls'd out, there is a thread on hear about fitting the larger 1600-20 tyres/wheels to gear them up a bit, I might try the 1600-20 wheels off the Foden some time and see what she's like pulling on the hills round here and for cruise speed.

  11. Hi all,

Hope someone can help, I'v just taken delivery of a Scammell S26 SLDT today. Can someone give a step by step procedure for engaging the PTO hydraulics please, had a couple goes tonight but cant get the hiab to work, skip/tipper body and clam shell bucket has been removed, the instruction sticker on the dash is worn and I cant make out all the wording.

    Thanks

  12. Go to the rear output shaft on the transfer box and on the drivers side from memory there will/should be a generator unit (about the size of a RED BULL tin) driven by a gear from transfer box, and sends electrical current/signal to the speedo, the wires go from this generator unit up to the electrical junction box at the rear of the drivers side cab above fuel tank and then on up to the speedo unit.

Temperamental units I'v been informed, try'd fixing mine before selling it but never got it sorted.
