  1. We took the Bedford over the Belgium for winter rally and got a few miles on the new set up, the extra power and Tourqe are very noticeable when driving up the steep hills in the Ardennes. Had a couple of issues with mucky fuel for some strange reason but it only stopped us a couple of times, other than it went very well. Job done :-) next up it will be turning olive drab and getting its original markings ready for Guernsey in May.
  2. The strip down has progressed a little further, all the internal panels in the rear have been removed sadly nearly all the slot head screws (over 200) had to be cut/chiseled off. It's mounted in the frame now so it can be turned around to make life easier. Just need to remove the front axle and the steering box, pedals etc then off to blasting.
  3. Sorry, don't know of any for dale at the moment.
  4. we're going over with the Bedford OXC and trailer, just got to finish the trailer and repaint it all green:D
  5. Finally took it for a test drive today :-) very happy with the outcome, more power and Tourqe throughout the rev range. The engine is very smooth and not too noisy in the cab. All the charging and vacuum system is working really well, the little vac pump on the alternator pulls more vacuum than the petrol e gone did and coped with the servo operation just fine. Cooling system works a treat, left it running for a few hours in the yard and the temperature never went above 85c , very happy. More testing over the weekend. 😄
  6. Well I have had it running, everything is working well so far, cooling system seems to be good and the vacuum pump on the alternator is working a treat for the trailer vac reservoir. Couple of small issues to figure out so its back out again at the moment, should get it back in for the new year and then I can take it for test run. https://vimeo.com/114414999 Also made a start on the trailer bows and drop sides
  7. Hi Steve, sounds like a good plan. I will give you a ring when I'm back in the uk in the new year. I have all the templates for the turret and will make it later this year, I also have make all the hatches so can get extras profile cut when I do it. Have you got any pics of your one? Does yours have the fan drive?
  8. I've just fitted one to my GTB, works much better than the original one ever did, very happy with it.
  9. Yeah I thought about a Perkins but 2 issues sprang to mind 1, finding a good truck version of a p6 Is not that easy as they have all be exported 2, the Perkins is very noisy and sluggish compared to a modernish jap engine. Also considered Bedford 220 but really wanted a smooth 6 pot. I put the same engine plus Nissan gearbox in a Land Rover tipper we built years ago and it was brilliant, it's still going strong and has outlasted 3 chassis now 😄 I wanted to fit a Toyota 2h but it's physically too wide to fit between the foot wells. 11. Yeah it looks quite good, i have managed to use a lot of original parts like the fan and the mounts, even the air filter fittings. Hopefully will have it running next week once the flywheel adaptor has been machined. I have not altered any of the original parts or fittings so if need be the original engine can go back in with no problems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Purist turn away now :-) Been fiddling with the Bedford and it now has a Diesel engine from a Nissan patrol 😳 Also re routed the exhaust as it was too hot under the cab! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Bit more progress today, started on the rotisserie and got the back axle out of the way :-)
  14. Managed to strip some more of the internal panels out this week, not helped by the previous repairs making it near on impossible to remove anything as they had all been welded to each other! One bonus is that the tow hitch fitted to the vehicle had been made from one of the original lifting eyes :-) so at least i have a good pattern for the new ones. Also had the new roof section cut ready for fitting up with components.
  15. i think i still have pdf copies of the 8x8, i will check and see. Edit - i do have them, PM me your address and when I'm home next week i will send on a CD as its a very big file.
  16. Few more panels stripped out and some dodgy repair panels. Stripped the engine, everything is standard sizes with very little sign if wear :-) sadly the bored and pistons are shot! It has sat with water in the bores at some point in its life.
  17. Excellent, they are the same thankfully. Thanks for the info. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Picked up a front axle today, pretty sure it's a C8 FAT ????? Can anyone tell me the diff ratio for the C8?
  19. A little further progress today :-)
  20. Thanks very much. This is all great stuff. I will dig out out the stuff I have collected and get in touch.
  21. There's a few pictures around showing them in action in France, holland, Italy and Middle East or Persia. Although the majority of the pictures I have seen show them used on airfields.
  22. Old git, I have got quite a lot of documentation about the LRC's including parts, workshop and drivers manual. Also the cutting patterns for the armoured plate and construction guidance documents. You are welcome to view them if it helps. Some of the docs are available online on the LRC yahoo group. Cheers
