  1. Theres one going around with a cummins 6bt in it witht the 5 speed ZF box, it was on the Guernsey tour in 2015. a perkins 6354 would work nicely aswell, along with a stronger gearbox. i put a Nissan SD33 into an OX using the original bellhousing clutch and gearbox etc, works a treat and was a fairly simple conversion.
  2. I'm working on a stalwart at the moment and the lower wishbone pin had to be cut into 3 to remove the wheel station! i stripped the hub and split the king pin yoke to do it, not a pretty site! it took 20 tonnes of pressing and heat to get the pin out out of king pin yoke!!! was only changing a split gaiter!
  3. Hi all, any owners of type 23's on the forum? i need to have a good look or get some pictures of the bonnets hinges of one to help with a restoration project i'm working on, if anyone can help? i would be most grateful and will buy them a beer or two:-D cheers Barry
  4. i understand where your coming from, good luck on your search. this picture popped up today on facebook, looks like a Bedford Tasker OXC with the light recovery trailer.
  5. Hi Neils, The chassis for the Taskers coupling OXC would have been a standard OX but the suspension, braking system, coupling would have been supplied by Taskers i would guess. I have seen a few Scammell coupling variants up for sale over the last few years but never any Taskers Coupling type, would probably be better to take a Bedford Scammell truck and convert it. There is one in Ciney Belgium that needs restoring but i don't think the guy will sell. Here is the diagram of the Scammell coupling OXC showing which parts were Bedford, Scammell or modified.
  6. all yours, i will strip the spare engine next week and check it over, should be good to rebuild it was running when it was removed and it sat in a shed for 30 odd years.
  7. Pair of Front brake drums and hubs from a Morris C8 Quad, bearings in place with nuts etc. Located Near Portsmouth, can put on a pallet for buyer Open to offers
  8. been a while since i updated on progress, a lot has been happening albeit very slowly! both rear top panels have been cut out and replaced, lots of internal panels are back in place and painted up, made a few of the accessory brackets and currently starting to rebuild the engine bay panels. plan is to get all the engine bay panels in place and cross member before cutting the rear panel repairs sections out, slow going but will get there in the end.

    Brake springs

these guys made springs for me in the past, i found there prices to be very reasonable and service excellent. http://www.albertasprings.co.uk/
  10. i've used ferret servos on a number of vehicles, works great :-) http://marcusglenn.com/parts/daimler-ferret-fv-700-series/servo-assembly-
  11. I have seen some that have had Perkins P6/R6 engines fitted, also in Sri Lanka i found one with a Leyland engine. usually long ago when they were work horses. other than that i have not seen any others converted to more modern diesel yet :cool2:. i have a toyota 2H waiting to go into something, to get it in the bedford i would need to make custom manifolds, maybe another truck? The SD33 works very well in the Bedford, i am very happy with the set up.
  12. I used the SD33 from a patrol 160, i have used these engines in a few conversions over the years as they are superbly reliable and cheap to pick up (good one is less than £500). The LD28 has a bigger inlet manifold so that might cause you some problems, as its a tight fit. the Patrol LD28t engine is also turbocharged so would probably need some custom manifolds to fit in the engine bay. Cheers Barry
  13. Looking for forward to seeing progress Tony.
  14. Sorry i don't have any spare bumpers. speak to Jim Clark at Allied Canvas, he has the patterns for the canvas and make a very nice job of them. Barry
  15. Thats great, like the sensible addition of a bigger windscreen and doors.
  16. Nice one thanks, i will check it out.
  17. Thanks Guys, this one was owned by a guy a Portsmouth for 20 odd years before i bought it, not sure where it came from before that though. I had to have it once i learnt it was for sale, hopefully in a year or two it will be on the road and i can enjoy the endless hours of work :-)
  18. progress is being made on the Morris, been blasted and zinc primered. Now i can see all the dodgy repairs that had been done before, lots more welding to do! i decided to fit all the internal panels to help brace the body whilst its being welded so they have been blasted, painted and bolted in. out with the welder again :-)
  19. I've just rebuilt a Stoewer Type 40 steering box as it had similar issues, a local machine shop machined the shaft and housing to accept a modern bearing thats available off the shelf, worked a treat.
  20. any Bedford OXC tractor units? thats when mine was sold off at Ruddinton.
  21. No Problem Tony, it was a booklet produced by the Daily Echo called "Hampshire at War 1939-1945" . if you struggle to find copy he can have mine.
