  1. I have a pair of Daimler Ferrets, one mk 2/3 and a rare mk2/7.  Looking to swap either one or both for anything wartime, be that a vehicle, artillery, deact etc.  Cash either way no problem.  I will not sell separately.   Both in first class condition inside and out, running and driving.pm me or ring 07971 103035. Location, North Yorkshire, UK.

  2. Hi All,

    I have a ferret which has a 2-speed generator, coupled with a Generator Box No. 2 mk2/1.

After a while of being stored I got it fired up and found the generator light stayed on.  On further examination I found the main 50amp fuse in the top cover of the Gen Box had blown, so I replaced it.  Started up fine, light went out and stayed out while the engine was running.  However, on stopping the engine, I could audibly hear a 'fizzing sound', I quickly cut the power from a battery.  I then tentatively reconnected the batteries and, no sound.  I then turned the ignition on again, got the 2 warning lights correctly lit and on starting found the red light was again staying on.  On investigation found the 50A fuse burned away!!

I must have a serious fault, I wondered if anyone here might have any similar experience?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  3. HI, After getting the servo to work the difference was amazing.  It stopped on a sixpence and still does to this day.  I can state that if these brakes are correctly setup then only light brake pressure is required to stop her.  Have you overhauled the servo?

  4. Sorry to hijack this thread  but  I have a Wisconsin engine with a magneto and I get a tiny spark from the end of the plug lead, (not enough to create a spark at the end of the spark plug).

Unfortunately its a big job to remove the cover to clean the points, or anything else for that matter.

Since I'm not up on magneto's I wondered if any experts might be kind enough to give me any pointers?

    TIA

  5. Hi John,  Thanks for your reply and taking the time to have a look.  I know what its like trying to find specific things :).

I've not started on it yet but I'm thinking that if the break is immediately where the shaft leaves the diff then I may have to remove the diff to get it out.  If I were to push it out from the other side could it drop into the trumpet/sump of the axle casing before finding the tubes, if that makes any sense!!

  6. Hi All,

Today, whilst driving the OY to the YWE I  had the misfortune to break a half shaft.  At least that's what I think has happened since the prop turns but no drive.  It went whilst changing up a gear on a steep hill!  I would prefer a pair (to carry a spare), I'm assuming they are identical shafts for either side?

Happy to buy a complete axle too.

    Any leads gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Jim

The engine may be the same for both an MW and OY. The engine performance characteristics required for them are different primarily due to the difference in weight. The performance will also alter depending on the air intake system and exhaust system.

I have it on good authority that the correct MW carb will improve the performance of my MWC (which currently has an OY carb fitted)

The main way of adjusting the performance for a given engine is the carburettor. Carburettor design is complex, there is a Solex publication that goes into the basics of how to size a carburettor (see link to pdf file)

Having done some more research, there is a subtle difference between the OY and MW carbs. The jet sizes are all the same, but the emulsion tube is different (I don’t know what the difference is, but it is different, and hence Solex gave them different part number). Tuning/adjusting the emulsion tube will remove engine "flat spots".

    Cheers

Thanks Richard for your explanation.  You've got me thinking now.

    Cheers

  8. Hi Adam,  I could be wrong but my understanding is that HGV's built before 1960 do not require the driver to have  an HGV ticket/operators licence, as long as driven for pleasure and unladen. p.s always fancied one myself :).
