2. My granddad looked round my fathers first landrover a early series 2 softtop and said it was a poor tractor a poor car and a poor van not a bad discription really ,but after all these years i still drive a landrover and have half a dozen others for spares or future restoration projects that will probably never be done .

  3. Very interesting search site, I will have to contact them for further info.

I managed to buy a photo copy set of manuals from the Manchester science museum which are very usefull! these came from the factory when it closed down and included some great photos of chassis and cab details before they were bodied.

I have been quite busy on other projects latetly and was informed the other day that one of the magazines had an advert for a Crossley cab for £600, does anybody know about this as I cant seem to track it down?

Here is a generator carrying Crossley.

the vehicle is an aec matador not a crossley cab looks similar

  4. Just a quick hello to everyone, been interested in military vehicles since I was a kid, love the idea of owning a 'tank' of some description, although lottery win not withstanding I can't see it happening! :-( Anyway, hoping to pop along to the Armour and Embarkation do this weekend down in Dorset, any hints or tips on best place to stand and watch? Will be taking my 9 year old daughter along for a bit of Dad/Daughter time :D

I've been spending far too much time (when I shouldn't be) looking at various tank resto's on here, all I can say is I'm in absolute awe of what people can achieve!!!!

Anyway, best go and do some work,

    cheers

Richard Jackson or Jacko to my mates! :-)

  5. Leyland took over Scammell in 1955, long before the Crusader was introduced in 1968. Front and rear axles were Leyland group products.

Over 500 Crusaders were built at Guy Motors Wolverhampton with GHV chassis numbers.:)

my dad owned a crusader ex brs 4x2 tractor unit VBV663V he converted it with a york third axle to 6x2 this was a Guy built motor with a ghv chassis no

  6. Hi thanks for the photo i always thought it was the same gear and winch as the crusader.

    I know different now.

I do know that winch its a Mora Mas 30 i have a bit of information on them regards part nos or setting up the (control block/choke valves depending which is fitted ) for the two speed side of it if you ever need it.

thanks for the info will keep you in mind if we have any problems cheers ben

  7. recovery job came in today 50ft dredging barge sunk into a marina while moored along side the river bank .

worked out estimated pull and put down 2/1 recovery tackle using Foden 6x6 prototype winch tractor .

job sucessfully and safely completed in about 4 hours much to the relief of the owner

  9. My grandfather and his two brothers were in the leicestershire yeomanry 153 div R.A, Guards armoured div .

My grandfather was a driver ,one was battery sgt major and the youngest was on a sherman firefly. (bbc peoples war charles freer ) i went to see him some years ago and sat and listened to him tell me his war diary from 1939 till 1945 just wish i had recorded it . he told me of his fight through caen and produced a tool kit from a horsa glida which consisted of box spanners etc he also insisted his wife got a pair of boots from upstairs which took ages to find ,they were suede and had a lufftewaffe winged emblem imprinted in the leather and the sole; he explained that he nicked them from an airfield that they captured. he went on to tell me he found two french hammer shotguns which he kept on his tank great for close quarter stuff he said ! there were quite a lot of photos of his firefly i will try to track them down and ask permission for copies
