  2. [h=1]Lot 11448 - 4 x S.T.A. 9.00-20 Crossply Tyres[/h] https://whitelabel.globalauctionplatform.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/wca/catalogue-id-witham1-10000/lot-52bf343a-5c9a-43f8-b4c8-a649011940e6?clienturl=wca Offered at Withams at the moment - are these the ones? Nic
  3. I fear the frames have been removed - I use the trailer behind my 436 for transporting camping gear (12x12 tent etc) to shows and the frames just got in the way! The trailer came from Withams a few years ago and seems virtually unused. Appreciate it's a way to come from Scotland, so if you need a few specific measurements or photos let me know. May take a while as it's at the back of the barn buried under multiple layers of canvas! PM or use email nic593nic@aol.com is fine. Nic
  4. Nicely done. Thanks for the heads up and timely reminder. Nic
  5. I told my wife I was thinking of getting a 2 seat Rolls-Royce. She liked the idea and gave her approval. Maybe wasn't expecting the Stalwart with a Rolls B81 engine! Nic
  6. Actually that one belongs to a gent from West Yorks - There were 2 there! Nic
  7. You have my sympathies. I simply couldn't run my vehicles without the small team that help me ... and for larger tasks on the 436 with help from the members of the 432 forum. You need to find a fellow Stalwart owner or two in your neck of the woods and help each other out on major tasks. Regret that I can't offer more physical or practical support from deepest Yorkshire. Think positive - Summer is promised and at least the weekends in the barn won't be freezing..... Nic Stalwart/436/Pig
  8. An old friend in a new coat of paint. Who recognises her? (Clive, you're not allow to compete!) Nic
  9. Reading a bit further - book online here. Tickets are 39 euros for adults. http://www.ot-saumur.fr/15-16-07-CARROUSEL-DE-SAUMUR-2016_a16012.html Nic
  10. I have a friend in France who got the tickets, but as far as I'm aware its a first come first served event. It does sell-out so don't wait. http://www.museedesblindes.fr/en/actualites-du-musee-des-blindes-de-saumur/agenda/item/carrousel-2016?category_id=4 Nic
  11. I went to the Carousel in 2013. Starts about midday so you can visit 'Musee des Blindes' (Tank Museum) in the morning. The Museum is excellent. The Carousel - you have to sit through about 2 and a half hours of equestrian displays, synchronised motor bikes, and parachuting first - all good but not to everyones taste. You then get around 90 minutes of armour - dating from WW1 through to the present day. Some just do a show circuit or two, some are displayed in re-enactment scenarios. I recall it endd with a re-enactment of the then current French engagement in Mali and featured some very modern kit. Here's som pictures. Nic
  12. Probably worth going back to the source! http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/contents See sections 36 and 37. 37(7) says - “historical re-enactment” means any presentation or other event held for the purpose of re-enacting an event from the past or of illustrating conduct from a particular time or period in the past; This is a CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) explanation - http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/d_to_g/firearms/#a04 [h=4]Realistic Imitation Firearms[/h]From 1 October 2007, section 36 Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 created an offence to manufacture, bring into or cause to be brought into Great Britain, or sell realistic imitation firearms. It also made it an offence to modify an imitation firearm to make it realistic. Section 37 relates to specific defences: this allows persons in the course of trade or business to import realistic imitation firearms for the purpose of modifying them to make them non-realistic. It also provides various defences if the realistic imitation firearm was available for: a museum or gallery; theatrical performances and rehearsals of such performances; the production of films and television programmes; the organisation and holding of historical re-enactments; or crown servants. Section 38 defines a "realistic imitation firearm" as "an imitation firearm which has an appearance that is so realistic as to make it indistinguishable, for all practical purposes, from a real firearm". As a result of "real firearm" (defined in section 38 (7)) imitations of pre-1870 firearms are not caught by the offence. Whether an imitation firearm falls within the definition of a realistic imitation firearm should be judged from the perspective of how it looks at the point of manufacture, import or sale and not how it might be appear if it were being misused. Section 38(3) provides that in determining whether an imitation firearm is distinguishable from a real firearm, its size, shape and principal colour must be taken into account. It is worth keeping in mind that the intention behind this measure is to stop the supply of imitations which look so realistic that they are being used by criminals to threaten and intimidate others. If it is not a realistic imitation firearm it may still be an imitation firearm. Nic
  13. Fair call. I'm not familiar with the arrangement on a loyd, but had always assumed that the 'final padding' needed to be to the road surface itself. The wording 'resilient material between the rims of its weight-carrying rollers and the surface of the road' actually makes more sense applied to the 'road wheels' than to the track links. Nic
  14. According to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the maximum permitted speed for a vehicle on steel tracks is 5mph. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1984/27/schedule/6 It looks like you need both springs and pads to do 20mph ... A motor vehicle being a track-laying vehicle which is fitted with—(a) springs between its frame and its weight-carrying rollers, and (b) resilient material between the rims of its weight-carrying rollers and the surface of the road, and which is not drawing a trailer - 20mph Nic

  17. The floods in Yorkshire may not be making the headlines any more but there's still plenty of water about. To prove there's 'life in the old dog' my Stalwart shifted 6 tons of pig food this afternoon (Wednesday 6.1.16) to a flood bound farm. Nic 09ER31
  18. Or maybe not? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Texas_(locomotive) Western & Atlantic Railroad #49 "Texas" is a 4-4-0 "American" type steam locomotive built in 1856 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad by Danforth, Cooke & Co.. The Texas is widely known for being involved in theGreat Locomotive Chase during the American Civil War as the engine that successfully pursued the General locomotive after it was stolen by Union saboteurs in an attempt to ruin the Confederate rail system. The locomotive is currently preserved at the Atlanta Cyclorama building within Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It will be restored and relocated to the Atlanta History Center in 2016. Nic

  21. I’ve been dipping in and out of the Forum as a guest for some years, so it’s only proper that I do the right thing and introduce myself. I’m based in Yorkshire, UK and some of you will have met me at the local shows (Elvington, Croft, Bradford, York, Durham) over the last four years where I take my vehicles. I currently have a FV436 and an Alvis Stalwart (622) and arguably a third in an Arrows 1.75T trailer. I don’t claim to be a great mechanic, but I’m willing enough and have had the right support. Two friends locally provide the muscle and mechanical knowledge while I act as gopher and treasurer! And I’ve had tremendous support from the 432 Forum who have kept me on the straight and narrow in so many ways and even turned out last year to service the K60 pack. Unless you’re particularly talented MV ownership is a team sport! I’ve reluctantly decided that Chieftain ownership is beyond me both financially and practically, but if anyone knows where there’s a really nice ‘Flying Pig’ looking for a new home I might be tempted to further foolishness! Here’s a couple of pictures of the current collection out showing their respects for the Remembrance Day Parade in Thirsk Market Place 8th November 2015.
