  1. I last saw Stu in January 84, at Windsor, when i was posted out
  2. Hi Frank, not sure how much use I would be, now, but any info you require, ask away 😁
  3. It certainly is Stu Reid 😁
  4. Sorry, not got any pics in the album, have got some, maybe of your vehicle, will start digging through the attic, and will find them but dont hold your breath
  5. Thanks Barry, thats very interesting, there is no sign of any repair, going to do some digging on this as, I cannot see changing the whole belly plate as being feasible, quite a bit of work solving this puzzle, I dont suppose you have the service records for this do you? Guy
  6. Not really recommended in any situation, but if you think you need to ask, Definate no no
  7. Well it was one of ours, you never know you may be lucky, will did out that photo album later, and take a look, will put up any picks I have Guy
  8. Mmmmmm tracked rapier, do you have the service records for it? VRN? Got some pics hidden away of tracked and towed rapier firing in the Hebs, 1985, 22 Ad Regt
  9. AWESOME, Wow, I simply cannot believe it, especially with the hull breach, not surprised it passed into civvy hands, but to be repaired well enough to go back into service, and to be converted to Sabre, have you ever had the engine out of it? Guy
  10. Wow thats fantastic news, would love to see that again, would love to know how the hole in the hull was repaired
  11. In the words of a famous reporter embeded with the task force at the time, I counted them out, and I counted them back, vehicles returning to southampton from HMS Fearless
  12. Repatriation of the dead vehicle back to southampton
  13. Sorry Robin, did try, but these were taken on a little pocket camera, and quality is not the best, have put them on a stick to pass on to my youngest who is quite the wiz with photoshop, hopefully he can enhance them to being readable, failing that, its back to searching the attic where my notebooks are, got everything written down there
  14. Samson, playing in the sand, Ascencion Island
  15. Scorpion, on board HMS Fearless,
  16. Blues & Royals CVRT's lined up at Southampton waiting to be loaded onto the MV ELK.
  17. Sorry, think you may have been misinformed, new vehicles entering service in 83 / 84 did not have the light pod fitted, we started removing the light pod from older vehicles in 84, it must have been reintroduced at some stage, but I cannot help with when that was Regards Guy
  18. Correct Paul, I assume these would have been disposed of through normal channels, but would I assume, have never been allowed back on the road
  19. Hi Robin, the name Phil Henney does not ring any bells, but it was over thirty years ago, so dont read anything into that, will go up into the loft later and dig out my photo album and get some pictures up, pretty sure one photo is of all 9 vehicles lined up at Southampton waiting loading onto the MV ELK Regards Guy
  20. The Scorpion that was takenout by the landmine was never fixed, the RH final drive was destroyed and thehull was breached causing the engine sump to crack, deemed beyond local repair, the tracks were removed and it was towed on the hollebones to conflict end, and back to the UK where it was scrapped, the gun still being serviceable, also there were 2 CET's and 2 BARV's that sailed on the MV ELK
  21. The warning light pod was removed from vehicles around mid 1984, I remember our new samson was delivered in mid 83 without the pod
  22. Been a while since anyone posted to this thread, as a newbie, thought I would see if there is still any interest, I was the REME VM, with the detachment, I have some pics that might help, and if I can find my old notebooks, I have all reg numbers written down, one Scorpion drove over a landmine, this was recovered back to the UK but was cast, and the Samson, which was only about 6 months old, was also cast on the return due to a twisted chassis, all the rest were Ok and underwent the optronic ignition upgrade in 83, no idea what happened to them after 84 as thats when I left the blues and royals
  23. This is a common problem, one of the many issues from filling from jerrycans, only way to thoroughly sort it, is to drain the tank down and give it a good steam clean
  24. Hello everyone, another newbie here, dont currently own any military vehicles, but have previously owned series 3, 101 FC, and Scorpion, spent 30 years fixing military vehicles, as regular VM, T.A. And as a civillian contractor, currently looking for another 101 FC and Samson, always here with advice if needed
