  1. No the taxation class will remain historic sorry will need to be taxed historic but will still be nil charge
  2. The DVLA says Quote you do not need to pay vehicle tax if your vehicle was built before 1 JAN 1980 .this does not apply to large vehicles

Well i must be mistaken i recently registered a Dodge WC51 Historic with no MOT and also a previously MOTd 1978 SWB military Landrover historic with no MOT the Land rover had no MOT when i bought it and had no MOT when i sold it it was reclassified as tax and MOT exempt and there is a different cut off point between tax and MOT

  5. In the back of my mind there is 2 cut off dates in the 40 year bit tax exemption and MOT exemption are different one goes by the year and one goes by the month something like that one takes the year one takes the financial year

In the past i have had 5 dodges 4 ambulances and a weapons carrier French and Norwegian and have been all over this vehicle and there in nothing to indicate that it is F or N it has early bar treads and although it is not a WC58 it has the large radio in the back and the ceramic on the aerial is like a flying saucer original siren on N/S wing and something was mounted on O/S wing with 8 nuts and bolts no longer there was stuff coming out of Norway pre 1972 as said that lost 30 years intrigues me thanks

I know its all been heard before but i am bored a bit fed up and its raining the dogs have never had so much exercise and we have not left our property in 3 months so i thought i would try to find a bit of history on my command car now i know you lot are very knowledgeable so can i ask a few questions did British forces use WC57s were they sold at places like Ruddington if not where would a US vehicle have been sold my Dodge was registered 20 /3 1973 so what did it do for 30 years it was supposedly a PATHE NEWS camera car and been involved in a couple of films the only sound information i have is it was purchased in 1982 from a garage in Christchuch Dorset the guy gave it a coat of olive brab and got on the ferry and spent 2 weeks driving around northern France on his honeymoon it came back and was stored until i bought it 4 years ago it has no Norwegian or French markings it just intrigues me its history before 1982 does anybody remember seeing it outside that garage in Christchurch in 1982 with £200 on the screen
  8. Thanks yes makes interesting reading i notice there is a gap between 1939 and 1948/49 and if there was any body still around who remembers my uncle

Does any body remember TRANCO VALVES i was told as a youngster my uncle Victor Luker was a rear gunner on Lancasters and as the story goes after the war he met a lady in Farnborough who had something to do with Farnborough engineering they married and he ended up in a management position at the company what i also remember as decoking was common in those days was that relatives on occasions like birthdays would receive a set of valves for their relevant vehicle i also wonder what the company did during the war did they just make valves they must have been useful in a military application

I used to shoot clay pigeon there in the eighties i was amazed at the great condition of the original buildings and signage do the Smith family of farmers still own it no mention of the owners there is also a good book about Rivenhall airfield i have a copy somewhere if i remember Marauders flew out of there will check when i find the book

Adrian i know nothing its just that a dutch guy has a web site called M20 M21 FRAME AND ENGINE NUMBERS and it shows a guy called Larry Carlson in the USA owning that bike how old the site is i do not know maybe the bike gets about UK USA LITHUANIA his name seems to be Henk Joore HenkJooreahum@Quicknet/nl you might know the name see can you find it Charlie

  13. I know an antique dealer who uses a fresh cow pat stirs it in a bucket with a drop of water swears by it for rapidly ageing metal

I Remember seeing sherpas with what the yanks call stakeback bodies at an open day at a Wethersfield they had german shepherds in the back and it must have been about 1987/88.At the time i had a taxi at Witham in Essex and often picked up US military from Witham station i remember one day a guy was drinking from one of those wine sacks around his neck no problem always well behaved

  18. Thats a tall truck with a narrow track and where the lights are mounted looks like a snow plough the wheels look like Saurer type C
  19. Interesting i know nothing but speaks for itself really, great information, served with provost company royal military police in Germany left for England via Antwerp probably stored in Thetford Norfolk before being sold at Ruddington somebody will come in and interpret it better for you

I have a 1936 manufacture air raid siren not to be confused with the post war ones this came from a suffolk airfield control tower demolished in the early 1970s it is in great condition but is untested being 415 volts i will get it tested but at the moment it is untested it has been dry stored since 1972 this is the big one i have only found two others recorded one was at Hillingdon house and the other is in a museum in Filton in bristol as said this is the big one it has a double rotor at both ends it weighs in at 13.5 stone in old money about 85 kilos so no lightweight £1200

Well we are at it i have a really nice champ project for sale it starts runs drove on the trailer when i picked it up has very minimal rust in the usual places and i say this in all honestly a genuine BARN FIND its a picture still full of hay the only downside is the rear body has been cut out like a CJ jeep but no rust and an easy repair nice reg no paperwork and as said a nice project with minimal work and could be running around this summer £3500
  22. I saw this advertised for £2500 not long ago so is £1600 any good and i have to bring it back to suffolk
