  3. Hi Seamus, It’s good that you’ve had the same experience as me, and that you’ve found a solution. Of course the good thing about using cellulose thinners is its dirt cheap. I was talking to another a friend yesterday about painting and he does a lot priming at his place of work because they do blasting and he said he painted some railings once when there was snow on the ground and got a lovely finish. Think my previous idea that the warmer the weather the better was probably wrong. I’ve got a batch of small bits to do for the Scammell so I’ll try the cellulose thinner. Ch

  4. The adaptor Is a proper Fordson part, although not from the wot, maybe from the 50’s as I think that was when the 4D engine was introduced. The 4D has a different shaped bellhousing to the v8 enfo was stamped on lots of Fordson parts, sort of the English Fordson equivalent of the scripted f found on jeeps etc I suppose. Fordson Major tractors for example have got enfo stamped on all sorts of different parts

  5. I am still in the queue for engineering and suffering a serious lack of funds, which obviously makes progress on anything requiring expenditure, somewhat difficult. Fortunately a number of paying jobs have turned up, and I am fully occupied trying to drag myself out of the sh1t ! I'm sure I'm not alone in the present circumstances. However, in every project there are jobs which lurk and get bypassed for various reasons and it didn't take me long to find some. A nice pair of suitable gate hinges have been hanging around long enough and have now been attached to the seat lid

  6. The gearbox is a standard Ford V8 flathead one, so probably original part of your Fordson. There should be a an air compressor mounted on the right side.

  9. The two embryo Radiator Filler Caps have been separated from each other today - the tops machined and overall thickness taken down to the finished size. All to do now is to machine the top 3/8" thickness to "Hex"

Don't want to hijack your thread, perhaps we could do with a painting thread, but i was interested by some peoples comments regarding painting, in particular what Pete Ashby said. I too use the Warpaints paint with 15% sheen after trying numerous others with differing results. I've always used the thinners that Warpaints sell and its always come out quite well, until i was painting the winch for our scammell a couple weeks ago and it came out quite matt. The pro painter chap next door said it could be because it was a particularly hot

  14. Right, I've sifted through and here are the rest. While some images are easily identified I thought I'd include them anyway for people to have a look at. I'll include any captions above their respective image.   16. Screwcut the second of the two Radiator caps which is still back to back with the first one. They are now ready for separating with the Band Saw and then each Cap can then be completed The tops will have a "Hex" milled on them.

  21. It is one of our favoured photos. The other is below, not particularly vehicle related but a good photo nonetheless. If there's anyone interested, once I get hold of his service record and can piece together locations, I intend to collate everything in chronological order of My Grandad's journey through Africa, I can post all of the ordered pictures in "Other Chatter" for people to have a look through.   22. I'm now enjoying a well deserved sit down, so, not content to be completely idle, will take the time to post a short update. Front wheels have been painted up to top-coat green and now need to wait for the paint to harden before I can consider lifting them. There was a dawning realisation that if I wanted to refit the front axle then the hooks needed to come off and be cleaned up and painted. So these have been playing catch-up alongside the spring hanger links, king pin covers and hubcaps. Sorry, not the best picture.... Meanwhile, the spring hanging link

  23. We are still mainly concentrating on other (long neglected building) projects but really enjoying getting back into this one after so long. I have glued each additional layer of MDF onto the CNC cut templates and used the router to trim them with a slight offset to give 2 degrees of draft angle. Each is currently at 4 layers of 12mm and the final depth needs to be 4" so I need to add some thin ply or similar to the backs to finish them off. There are still a few more parts to print before moving on to the core box. The outlet is on the side of the radiator so a tight be

  25. Thought I'd show this Alvis FV brochure, which I recently dug out from the attic. I've owned it since at school in the 70's, where a fellow pupil / CCF member (whose name is still on the front !) gave it to me. I'm not sure how he came by it, although I think his dad was in the Army. Not only is it packed full with technical data, but the artwork is of its time, and quite attractive.

I’m with you tankdriver....although I have discovered that if you buy a special tool for doing up the 9/16 inch nuts on Landrover propshafts, it’s effectively a one piece extension bar and 9/16 socket in one - it just fits the cylinder head nuts on B series engines - the necked extension clearing the head allowing you to get a torque wrench on the nuts.
