This could be the one.Blueleader,

New information though guys: Awating confirmation on class etc from Admiral Catweazle. Fleet Air Arm launch number 236 coxswain Pilot cox sailed from Jersey on Tuesday 17th june 1940 to St malo, taking part in the 'Other Dunkirk'. despite haveing a lot more problems of navigation and enemy action than the Channel Crossing, very little is ever heard about this operation.

Have you just bought it or is it one you used to own?

This is one we had before Horatia,it needed a lot of work to the decks etc.Had an interesting history, worked out of Ipswitch with the admiralty

as an auxilary coastguard during the war.Underwent a massive rebuild in 1960 under the supervision of Frederick Parker a naval architect for a wealthy client. The occupation of the client as registered by Lloyds was

A GENTLEMAN.

Massive build ,pitch pine on oak built to Llyoyds A1,doesnt get better than that.

Originaly had a taller main mast and gaff rig.It really became more of a motor boat after the rebuild. The Lister 3 cyl was replaced with a MAN 130 hp,and ZF g/box,Comercial radar and vosper stabalisers fitted in vospers yard, this was serious money in 1960.

A beautifull craft CW ! You are a lucky chap to have been part of her life ! :-D

I try to think that way,it was funny we would go out and thrash around on Horatia come back to a roast dinner on Fortuna as it had all the facilities.

Thats a sad end for an historic boat, hopefully she will be rescued one day and returned to her proper environment.

Its not unusual Deryck ,he did say he didnt wont a plastic boat as he wanted one that kept its value, for resale if he should not get on living on a boat,so i would hope he has kept it up.One plus point is wooden boats do fair better if there lived on all year rather than left. i havnt been to look its something i never do prefering not to know.

We stripped off all the canvas deck covering as it was cracked and letting the water in.The deck planking is pine t&g.

No thrashing on this one Andy top speed 8knts.

There was five people with sanders at one time trying to get it all cleaned up.we also took off all the varnish its my pet hate.We replaced the canvas with glass fibre matting and epoxy.the wood has had a couple of coats of teak oil.we added more as we went along its much easier to look after,Varnish doesnt like sticking to teak as its very oily.

Setting off for France.

It was my first channell crossing,PW not very keen on the sea so basically i was on my own.It wasnt as daunting as i first thought it might be.

I think the first thing i learnt was not to try and cross comercial shipping.allways use the pass astern rule.on one ocasion i thought if i get a fuel problem now its curtains.by the time we got back i was on the ball.

Had one near miss with fishing nets on a trawler, should of put the radar on earlier.Due to the work the nav lights werent wired up, had to turn back as it was rough so as to wire them up.Then turn again into the weather.everytime i go anywhere its on the nose.Pat wasnt amused by all this and perched herself in the corner for the 9hrs it took us to do the 60 miles.what a baptism.I dont how i did it in the dark when we came alongside the pontoon i stopped it perfect hopped off and tied up like i had done it for years,Then looked back and said how the blazes did i do that.

moody skies.did about 4hrs in the dark first time ever,to watch the change from middle channel was amazing.

Leaving for Brighton.

Cheers Andy,it doesnt sound much but when you finally do it on your own it does give you a good feeling of achievment,No sat Nav traditional methods :-D bit boring so slow, but a great boat once there for socialising.
