Papav66
Does seem funny that we've dug this thing up only to bury it again! But good that people will be able to visit & walk through, as most are inaccessible on private land. Been over this evening & Bob has been busy moving a few more tons of earth only to be stopped by one of the tracks coming off, so thats another job for tomorrow. sirhc
I found one of these last year, still underground though! Chris
Papav66
pretty well hidden that one, was that also near an airfield? if so where?
sirhc
Yes, it's at the former RAF bomber station at Wickenby near Lincoln. They are starting a bit of a museum up there, and have a collection of planes along with the original control tower. Chris
ArtistsRifles
Hello Neil,This is located on Bob Jame's place at Badsey nr Evesham, Worcs, & is also the clubhouse for the South Midlands MVT where we have three shows with the next two in August. And you might be interested to know that one of our members has a vehicle similar to your OT-90, he has the Russian BMP1 but it needs an engine. Cheers mate - will have a look at the calendar for August! Ref. the BMP-1, if it needs an engine he'd be better off getting another BMP-1 scrap with a good engine. I was talking to Richard and the guys whilst up there, the starting procedure for the OT/BMP series is - umm - tricky to say the least and if the electric oil pump isn't run long enough to "float" the very heavy crankshaft engine wear is horrendous. A big enough worry on it's own - but the engines are classified as current equipment and thus have a rather high price tag. I think Richard mentioned the sum of £56,000 for a replacement UTD-20 engine.  Cheaper to buy a new vehicle in that case..... Papav66
Think Bob has done a great job of burying the Stanton but still more work to do. We made the bank steep to hopefully deter little ones climbing, still need to make safe along with some signs. Also found a suitable ladder & period benches. Then need to make up some steel doors & will put concrete slabs down on floor. And to finish off the visitor experience I found a 5min soundtrack of an air raid with sirens, planes, bombs & ack ack to play inside. Papav66
Getting hard to see that there is a shelter there now. A few more finishing touches with baskets to stop soil slipping, metal door to entrance, metal hatch & looking greener just in time for show on Aug 8-10.
