ww2 Sturmgeschutz found in Polish river

Recommended Posts

What I find really interesting is the state of preservation.  Yes it's come up in lots of bits, the fact that the wheels still rotate I find astonishing.  The material something metal is deposited in makes such a difference to the rate of corrosion.....

They did also find a jagdpanther roof. So they will be digging again. Mateuczs has quite a lot of parts for PZ3 so possibly if they find a bit more he can restore a third stug

Sunk into a nice, anoxic mud, in fresh water.

Bearings well packed with grease before it went for its swim, so no surprise at the state of preservation. There's a number of uTube clips showing T34s, dragged from similar bogs, wheels rolling nicely & one of the pair of bogeys from a Porsche-suspension Jagdtiger, that've been out in the fresh air for decades, that spin quite happily.
