how to find out a dodge wc51 bonnet number

hello all.

well all going to plan on Saturday I am planning on getting a 1942 dodge wc51.

I would like to find out what its bonnet service number should be as its not on the vehicle and where it served if possible as the current owner doesn't know. 

any advice on how to do this would be great.

Honestly, a bit like hunting Unicorns. There were rebuilds, disposal to other countries,  disposal of records, write offs. The only reason I can be certain of my WC54 's Katy's number is she kept her rebuild plate, if that had been unscrewed for any reason, no record at all. I have photos of Dodges in UK service carrying Z numbers.

Ah ok.. well I will see what I can find when I get it back on Saturday. I thought there may have been a record somewhere so it is more like a case of if it's not on the dodge now it is gone for ever... 

I will still try and get the build card as it is nice to have.

Build card will at least get you into the right area for a bonnet number. My WC51 has my Mother's birthday as the bonnet number. Alternatley find a picture of the unit you want to portray and copy.
