Thanks for your comment. It's useful to have the restoration blog so I can look back and see how much progress I have made especially when I feel like I'm not making as much headway as I would like.

I have made a start making the end plates for the tow assembly. Andrew was able to provide a drawing and instructions to make these plates as the set-up is different to Alastair's tracked towing Loyd. I started by gas cutting the plates slightly oversized then trimming the first one down with a grinder and then heated and cracking the front part in the vice. I next need to check the hole position before drilling and then finish of grinding and shaping.

I have been working on the pioneer brackets again tonight. I have drilled the bracket that holds the shovel head also I can use the bracket for the pick axe shaft off the universal carrier as when the tow hitch is fitted the pick axe shaft should be relocated on 2 other brackets which I now have. I have also finished a few jobs on the pioneer plate for the universal carrier while I have it in the shed. When I come to drill the Loyd front plate I will lay the universal carrier pioneer plate over it and drill through as they use mostly the same hole pattern.

I have managed to position and drill the first tow assembly end plate. I will now drill through the other plate and bolt them together and cut the second one to size. One thing I have noticed is that the tow spring is longer than any I have (32½") as it fits outside the chassis rails rather than inside.

I have also marked and cut down the left rear panel and refitted, then positioned and drilled the outer angle iron that runs front to back.

I have finished the tow assembly end plates today although I managed to kill 2 grinders. 

I drilled through the first plate into the second and bolted them together and cut the second out using the first as a pattern. 

One problem I have is I don't have a 3 leaf tow spring long enough and will have to get one made if I cart find one. It's about 32½" long. The one's I have are 29". The tracked towing Loyd's have a different tow assembly and use the 29" spring.

I have been looking at the dynamo set up and the dynamo housing. Dose anyone have any information, pictures or parts to measure as this would be a great help? Also the remote greasing panel attaches to the dynamo housing.

I have placed some green tape where I believe the dynamo housing sits.

Not updated recently!

The body is all but finished, adjusted and squared up. This will now be removed and a couple wrong holes welded up and some welds tidied up. The front plate will have the holes for the pioneer brackets drilled. The bench seat will have to wait until I can get to Duxford and measure the one there, hopefully early next year.

The driver's floor is now in and most of the controls are done or just need a bit of finishing. There are still 6 holes to drill but I will do them once the body is off and I can turn it over. The floor will then be removed to blast and paint. I found out that the clutch linkages are different to other Loyd's to avoid the PTO and belts driving the dynamos.

I have found a speedo, NOS!

Alastair got me new brake cables made.

The last brake back plate has been built up with weld and ground to shape also the last suspension unit was badly corroded and has also been built up with weld and ground back. No pictures??? Both are now in primer.

Thanks. It's getting to the point where it should take a big leap forward as most chassis and control parts are done and ready for paint although harvest is creeping up  and will bring things to a halt for a few months.

Another harvest done and drilling going well so starting to think about the Loyd again.

I have repaired Alastair's original throttle linkage that sits on top of the engine and made one for myself. Still need a special bolt and a boss machining up. Yet again the starter charger has thrown up some differences. Also the rod that run up to this linkage is a different part number and appears to attach to the linkage in a different way.

This part is to adjust the rod length and fits in the middle of the rod. One end of the rod looks to be threaded and the other slides in and locks by tightening the small nut on the side. I've not seen anything like this set up before.

If you were a professional outfit you would have used those throughout the Loyd throttle linkage system, however the Loyd being what it is they just bent the end of the rods a 90 deg and held them in place with a  washer and cotter pin!

The Loyd project had ground to a holt through a combination of needing to start painting and not been able to borrow parts and get information to make missing parts. Luckily I have now managed to borrow a front engine frame and grill although a later type grill. So today I worked out how I'm going to make the front and rear engine frames. This is my first attempt, I decided to cut the side off the angle iron and clamp it to a jig then weld curved piece in.

I've managed to sort some parts out today, some for patterns some to use and some partly remade all working towards getting the engine frame work and covers done. I've got the front frame ready to locate and drill in position. The front frame once in position will then give me the location of the 3 middle floor plates as they bolt together. I've held off finishing and fitting these floor plates as I wasn't sure how to locate them. The rear frame is also done and this just needs cutting to length and drilling. First I need to finish making the 2 uprights and fit the front frame to give me the height of the rear frame. Hopefully I will start to make some visible progress tomorrow.

I started rebuild the engine cover framework by getting the chassis out on the floor and levelling it up with spirit level.

I then made the 2 rear uprights. These are 2" angle iron with a base that bolts to the curved part of the chassis. I had the pieces cut out but has not made them up as I wasn't sure of the measurements.

Once the uprights were made and fitted I measured forward and clamped an angle iron across the chassis to mark the front edge of the front hoop/frame I had made previously then drilled and bolted it in place.

I then made the 2 side rails bolted them at the front then layed 2 lengths of steel across the chassis then another over them to give a reference line to get the side rail parallel with the chassis then drilled and bolted them to the uprights.

I then fitted the rear hoop/frame. I had mark a line on both sides at the hight of the side rail by clamping the front and rear hoops/frames together before I started assembly so this gave me a reference for the hight of the rear hoop/frame which I then clamped and drilled. I then removed it and cut to length using the bottom hole and the remains of an original rear hoop/frame for measurements then bolted it in place.

I then fitted the rear bottom angle iron which was clamped in place and drilled. I still need to add a socket for the cranking handle to this piece.

It looks easy but took a lot to figure it all out to get everything square and both hoop/frames the same hight.
