Land Rover Mk1

Recommended Posts

I am presently renovating a Land Rover Mk1 which was based with MELF in Libya from the  1919 through to the pedriod MELF was split and then it went to Cyprus until 1961.. It has a repair plate from the Berka workshop. The army number was 07BC25. I believe it was first with the 25th Armoured Brigade but cannot find much information on that brigade. The interest also extends to my Father who was on national service with REME in the late 40s and may have even worked on the vehicle. I would appreciate any information, particularly with regard any equipment and signs on the vehicle

Thanks in advance

Phil.

Hi Phill welcome on board looking at your post and the army reg number you posted your landrover must be a 1949 80" the military called it a rover mk1 fitted with the 1600cc engine from contract 6/VEH/3659  with a chassis number in the range R8667261-9139  you could try a search on RLC web site there may just be record of your landrover there ,as to equipment fitted to early landrovers there was very little that was specific military parts most were rover parts which were also used on the export models ,from memory ,there would be a vent panel under the windscreen ,a WD type fire extinguisher mounted on the dash board just above the gear sitck ,spare wheel on bonnet ,possibly a jerry can and clamp fitted behind the front seats in the spare wheel well and tow jaw with either two pin trailer plug to match the war time trailers or possibly a sanky trailor socket to match the trailers for the austin champ as to the markings you would need to decide what date your restoration is be based on as the markings changed a lot over the period your landrover i have attached some photos to try and show some of the changes
