How about:

Because the organiser relies on the social gathering of MV owners and enthusiasts to provide the free spectacle that the public pay to come to see.

Without the social draw for MV owners the organiser would likely end up having to pay MV owners to bring their MVs in order to provide the spectacle for the public.

Point taken, it wouldn't be much of a show with out MV etc owners let alone the paying public. It takes two to tango though, so to speak. No MV's etc no show, no public no show. Paying for MV's to attend could make for an interesting admission charge to the public

Precisely. If we have to resolve everything to the unpleasant basis of £££'s - every MV owner and Living History group pays to get there and be a part of the show. Adding together transport costs and fuel costs - when I had the OT-90 it was costing ME personally over £800 to be there every year and take part in the arena events with Rex aiding the transport costs. The heavy armour guys paid even more.... Unlike a trade show where the exhibitors are there to sell and make a profit W&P - to me at least - primarily is for the MV and Living History communities to come together, socialise and play in safety. The public are not necessary from our point of view - but nice to have.

Unfortunately it always devolves to money in the end, but the choice is yours as to how you spend it......... or not.

I'm not an MV owner, so not an issue for me being a "nice to have, by-product" :)

Not being an MV owner its difficult to understand the frustration of some people...........

I remember the first time I read the t&c's at W&P from the last owner, not really that far away from the new ones, and as I remember little of those were enforced.

Lets all just see how it goes and if we dont like the way its run now, vote with our wheels..........

I reckon the best thing to do is book in , turn up, and enjoy it. Forget all past shows with different organisers / owners because I am sure the new show will have pros and cons across the board . In reality if the new management had not bought the name etc , there might not of been a W&P show this year, so there should be big thank you from all for that.

Incidentally on the point of the public now being able to park their cars within the show, is that likely to increase the amount of things being stolen off vehicles, as taking stuff and then briskly walking to a nearby car, then putting stolen items in the car boot is much quicker / tempting that perhaps walking half a mile back out through the entrance / exit for people on foot and all the way back to a distant car park. I suppose the risk relates to the item; a spare wheel off a jeep could disappear much quicker with a thief's car nearby rather than it being rolled or carried out on foot, and much less noticeable.

It never ceases to amaze me how trusting MV owners are with their vehicles! Fingers crossed the public will treat our vehicles and supporting weapons and kit with respect!

I read on the W&P Organisers Facebook page, that vintage Classic cars, Tractors, commercial vehicle owners are being offered a Free Entry Day pass to exhibit at the W&P show, shame they don't extend that offer to Military vehicle owners who may prefer to just come along for a day!

And what do tractors, steam engines and speedway bikes which are also invited, have to do with a Military show?

Can't see any logic in that at all...:nut:

So if you have a ‘Vintage’ vehicle and only wish to go for the day then you are in for free - !!!!!!!!

That's what my dad did last year. He doesn't want to go the whole week anymore and prefers to stay in a hotel rather than a tent now, so he entered his classic (and still very comfortable) Mercedes for the show. Arrived in the morning, stayed the day, dined and slept at a nice hotel and left for home again late next afternoon. This gave him the chance to still visit the event without me having to hear him moan & complain the rest of the summer that 'he's too old for this s**t'... :D

Usually by now we have received the Entry Packs with things like the Vehicle ID's in. No sign yet though, and no news from the organiser on what is happening.

It is kind of frustrating - as others have said, we know the new team will be picking up the pieces as they go whereas Rex's people had it down to an art but in this day and age of Information overload it surely would not be too hard to issue regular updates on social media or forums like this on how things are progressing????

Neil......see my entry above. I dont think you will be receiving any entry packs. I think all you get is what you can print online.....your receipt.

Given the weather of the last two shows that is stupid! Most people I know with armoured vehicles - and a fair few with softskins - get the vehicle ID's laminated so they can be affixed externally without dear of the rain trashing them. The rules say they must be displayed prominently thought out the show:

Upon entry to the show please ensure your vehicle sticker with your entry number is appropriately attached to your vehicle on arrival. This is also necessary for your vehicle to be judged.

If they are not sent out before hand how can owners arrange for them to be protected from the rain and the arena??

Also - having read the rules again to find this I also noted that they now say:

In the light of public opinion the organisers must insist that ALL WEAPONS brought onto the site for display or sale must comply with CURRENT U.K. legislation. Anyone found to be disregarding this request will not be re-invited to attend. Please ensure that you follow this request to assist in keeping the reputation of War & Peace as being a “Family Show”. Thank you.

If I read this right - as of April 8th virtually every weapon owned by exhibitors are now classed as a "defective deactivation" and thus not in compliance with current UK legislation so cannot be taken to the show. If we all follow this rule to the letter it's going to be a pretty boring show for the public especially in the Living History area.......

At the present time there is no law on the UK statute book under which anyone can be charged , however to speed up the processing of a new law an addition has been made to legislation already on it's way through Parliament. Assuming that this legislation passes into law before the show then I can foresee problems.

Thefollowing extracts are from the home office Guide on Firearms Licensing Law April 2016. I suggest that anyone fromoutside the UK should not attempt to bring deactivated weapons as they arelikely to have trouble if inspected at the border.

EU Firearms Deactivation Regulation

2.21 An EU ImplementingRegulation establishing common guidelines on deactivation standards andtechniques for ensuring that deactivated firearms are rendered irreversiblyinoperable will come into force on 8 April 2016. This places a new level ofstandard for deactivating firearms across the EU. The new standards shall notapply to firearms deactivated prior to 8 April 2016 (when the Regulation comesinto effect) unless those firearms are transferred to another Member State orplaced on the market. The Proof Houses will be applying these standards tofirearms submitted to them on or after 8 April 2016. A link to the Implementing Regulation 2015/2403 is attached here.

2.22 Further informationwill be made available on the .GOV website. A link to the firearms pages isattached: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/firearms-licensing-police-guidance

Deactivated Firearms

28.11 CommissionImplementing Regulation (EU) 2015/2403 introduced EU-wide standards fordeactivated firearms and an EU Deactivation Certificate. To ensure thatdeactivated firearms are compliant with this legislation, from 8th April 2016,an import licence will be required for the import or transfer into the UK of adeactivated firearm. There is no exemption from the need for an import licencefor deactivated firearms manufactured on or before 31 December 1899. An importlicence will be required for each shipment along with a transfer licence issuedby the exporting Member State. The only acceptable proof that a firearm isdeactivated is an EU Deactivation Certificate. No other DeactivationCertificate will be accepted.

28.12 Re-enactors willbe able to apply for a three year import licence provided you have the new EUCertificate of deactivation and are a member of a re-enactment society when youattend the overseas re-enactment event. Separate import licences will berequired for EU and non-EU events

So - veering off topic a moment - section 28.12 means no weapon deactivated prior to April 8th can ever be taken to an overseas event like Historia Mundi - or, worse, the Somme commemorations this year. Unless we pay an arm and a leg to have valuable items ruined and assuming the Proof Houses can ever agree with the EU/Home Office on how to deactivate to the EU specification in such a way the deactivation certificate actually means something.

Wonderful! :-( :-(
