Ian L
What colour were BSA Para bikes when new ? I've seen some repainted in brown but is this correct & if so does it designate a year of manufacture or a theatre of operation ?
MatchFuzee
I have read somewhere, that they were produced in green first and then brown when green paint was in short supply.
Degsy
I had one in 1950, it was light grey and hadn't been repainted.

MHillyard
It was the darker brown. Need to repaint my bike soon so glad this subject came up! Would Service Brown be suitable? Or is it a different shade?
mcspool
Need to repaint my bike soon so glad this subject came up! Would Service Brown be suitable? Or is it a different shade? I cannot think of a reason why these bikes would not be painted in the Standard Camouflage Colours of the day? As per Mike Stamer's research: http://www.mafva.net/other%20pages/starmer%20camo.htm So the brown would have to be SCC2 I reckon
MHillyard
Might give some of this stuff a go: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-STANDARD-381C-499-CELLULOSE-PAINT-SERVICE-BROWN-2-5L-/370856437126?hash=item5658c42586:g:HV8AAOxyhtpR5~IY Or some from a similar seller on Ebay Has anyone used them before to know if they are any good? Need to repaint the Welbike and several other bits so may get more to keep it the same batch
