greyhound32122
a friend sent me a link to this web site which is a recovery specialist with 2 diamonds for sale one is a 969 with a civi cab fitted and the other looks like a 970 pontoon re bodied. i would have a go but i have potentially committed my self to another diamond which i have to go and look at soon, hopefully a buyer can be found for them before they are cut up. http://www.breakdownvehicles.com/
Alex van de Wetering
They have also recently been posted in the for sale or heads up section, but better safe than sorry! I think the long closed cab one could be a rare Canadian 975 (too long for a 970 in my opinion), but it could also "just" be a lengthened 968 or 969. Would love to see some pictures of the chassis and drive shafts....or maybe a picture of data plates in the cab to determine it's identity. Let's hope they get saved! greyhound32122
the long wheel base T would be a nice restoration project even the cab & body work looks half tidy at a glance. wonder what the chances are the Hercules engines are still fitted? cosrec
I don't know the owner but I do know the guy charged with selling them he is very amicable and if you contact him as per my original post he will be more than willing to supply any info alternatively I am willing to gleen any info you want. as a heads up they will not be sold for less than scrap value (why would they). By the way chris who is selling them is very patient but is very curt with dreamers Edited August 5, 2015 by cosrec
Smithy
Just out of interest how much would you say scrap value would be for something like this? I'm guessing the recovery booms would add significant weight? Certainly look like two great T's to save though and dare I say it would look good restored in their current livery. cosrec
work on £140 a ton as stood there If you have use for the winches add a little more . Personally I add nothing more for nostalgia or historical value but other people might see more. end of day its all down to what some one is willing to reach out and pull out of their back pocket Edited August 5, 2015 by cosrec
utt61
There are pictures of the two of them in (very slightly) happier days here:- https://www.flickr.com/photos/47103967@N02/5005552340/ Each in its way is an absolutely classic and unmolested example of a period heavy recovery vehicle and I would love to see them both restored as such. The LWB closed cab is particularly well proportioned, an absolute classic. I wish I had the space and the dosh, but sadly I have neither. Please someone, buy them! Anyone recognise the recovery gear on the back of the long one? Home-made or off something else? Looks to me a little as though it might be a TFL unit. Ed Batchelor
Scrap is down to around £70/ton now but these have got to be worth saving even at £140/ton! Lot of truck for £1000-£1500 quid surely.
Packhow75
Surely worth a punt for the seller on Milweb... loads of people look there, but not here?
RattlesnakeBob
2 very grand old ladies there that certainly deserve a home after all the years of graft they must have put in I must admit to having a soft spot for ex military trucks when they found themselves in service for Funfairs and Circus's and also as breakdown trucks....I'd love to see them restored to the glorious beasts they must have been when they were first demobbed with loads of gleaming bodywork and coach lining paint detailing Ah well....I'll add them to the 'if I ever win the Lottery' list
Smithy
Thanks guys for the replies. If only I had the room to store such vehicles....Hopefully someone will save them.
