Ferret Oil Change

Recommended Posts

I am about to do an engine oil change on the Ferret, and I seem to remember last time I got in a right mess due to the amount of oil, getting on for 14 litres.

I was thinking of buying a cheap manual oil transfer pump from machine mart, the kind of thing you can use on an oil drum...and draw the majority of the oil through the filler.

Am I right to assume there are no restrictions or bends in the filler tube, and I can get into the bottom of the oil tank?

Cheers

Mick

Why go against what it says in the User Handbook ?

Drain it from the oil tank sump plug, put an old carpet down and have a few containers ready for the deluge of oil.......

Ahh the joys of oil changing! :D Do as above, and get someone else to remove the sump plug!

Someone should have warned you,

"There's a little bit of head pressure on the drain plug with almost five gallons in there, be careful." :D

I found a very large oil drain pan (~15 L) at my local parts store that has a spout on it, apparently for pouring out the old oil when you're done... I bought 2, and set one up on a small stand to overflow into the other and it works quite well with the Saracen.

Cheers,

Terry

We use a kids plastic paddling pool! Then decant the oil into a 20 litre pail using a drill-powered pump.

You could also use the drill pump to suck most of the oil out through the filler tube or dipstick tubes.
