DWS
Hi I am researching the BSA B40 350cc motorcycles as used by the RAF during the 1960s and 1970s. These motorcycles were officially described as Police Escort Motorcycles and were more commonly used by the RAF Police, where they were finished in RAF Blue/Grey and fitted with white Avon fairings. However, during my research I have discovered that they were also used by various other RAF Units, Squadrons and Sections for a variety of tasks. I am looking for any information on these particular motorcycles and especially photographs showing these RAF BSA B40 motorcycles in use by RAF personnel, both in the UK, Germany and further afield during this period. I am led to believe that they were also used by certain RAF Units, Squadrons or Sections without the fairing fitted and I am looking for evidence of this. Can anyone help please? Richard Farrant
I cannot help with the RAF B40's, but did own an ex-Royal Navy B40 in the early 70's and this had never had a fairing fitted. At least, it showed no evidence of one.
