MV Show Southsea Common 7th - 8th June 2014

The MVT Solent Branch ran the D-Day Show there from 1984 to about 1994. A great venue as there were places to go and eat within a short walk. One of the biggest mv events around at the time and starting point of the 1984, 1989 and 1994 Normandy tours that were run by MVT. A sadly missed show.

Surely there would be far more support this year the weekend before.

Hi Paul,

The vicar of Southwick is looking for some vehicles over the D-Day weekend, they are planning a do at southwick house (HQ for monty and Eisenhower on D-Day), they usually open up the "map room" and the officer mess ;-) maybe you could tie in a drive over that way? unfortunately i will be in Normandy so cant be there.

Several things re the Southsea Common Show:

Though the main public showing will be logically over the weekend of 7-8 there are events throughout the week, from the 3rd onwards.

Free camping is available from 2 to 9 June with security on site - good chance to relax before the main event and no need to rush home.

If you want to get involved there will be plenty of veterans who would be delighted to get alift in your vehicle for the parades on the 3rd and 5th

I've put together a quick website with as much detail as is available at the moment, applications forms for living history, vehicle exhibits and traders are on there. http://www.ddaysouthsea.solentoverlord.co.uk

I've just emailed as many MVT area secretaries as I could find addresses for with details - can anyone give me contacts for IOW, Hertfordshire, North London, Shropshire and Border Counties, South Cumbria and North Lancashire and Suffolk please?

Those of you who are coming to OVERLORD (all welcome!) and wish to attend Southsea without the hassle of driving a thirsty military vehicle home for the intervening few days are welcome to leave them in secure storage. We have negotiated parking on the disused runways at Thorney Island which is an active, fenced and patrolled military base about 8 miles from both OVERLORD and Southsea. It is home to 12 and 47 regiments RA

Questions arising from this are best handled by using the enquiry form at http://www.ddaysouthsea.solentoverlord.co.uk/?page_id=66

OVERLORD general enquiries at http://www.solentoverlord.co.uk/blog/contact-us/everything-else/ for specific show enquiries use one of the options on the "Contact Us" tab

Hope to see you at one or the other of the shows - preferably both!

Bumping this one up......

Bring your MV down to Southsea common, make a week of it, plenty to see and do in the area not to mention all the ceremonies that will be right on your tent step. If you have any surplus stuff why not bring it down to sell, we are expecting thousands.

Anyone with a Military vehicle (any era) that wants to take this opportunity to have a short Holiday on the south coast come on down, but please let me know first so we can book you in or use the Vehicle entry form on the web site. Free on site entertainment, with the odd beach landing, air display and Drumhead service thrown in.

Any Traders out there.

£25 per day per trader with free onsite parking for a 10ft x 10ft pitch, and then increasing as below.

Width of Frontage

Depth 10ft 15ft 20ft 25ft 30ft 40ft

10ft £25 £30 £35 £40 £45 £50

We are expecting 100,000 people to attend the events from 5-8 June.

We can offer traders free onsite parking but they ideally would not be able to park next to / behind their stand (they can travel to and from the car parking areas before the vehicle curfew each day to re stock if required). This avoids having the event site with lots of trader vehicles. Other traders onsite will be unloading and parking in the car park.
