chrisgrove
That's why, in UK at least, and also under British Army standing orders, armoured vehicles must have a commander sticking out of the top who is in contact (intercom) with the driver. Mind you, I reckon the driver can see over the top of the blade, even if there is a fair amount of dead ground that he cannot see. Meteor mark 4B
When I worked at FVRDE I was sent off on my own with a Chieftain Dozer to do some tidying up. Due to the already mentioned lack of vision, I had to reverse about 50 yards each time to see what I had done!
ploughman
I used to have the same problem in reverse with a Michigan 275 Wheeled bucket http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.truck1.eu/img/Construction_machinery_Wheel_loader_MICHIGAN_275_B-ful-870/870_120547146807.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.truck1.eu/_TEN_auto_583890_Construction_machinery_Wheel_loader_MICHIGAN_275_B.html&h=262&w=350&sz=35&tbnid=Iq7qUOC3Me8YpM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=120&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmichigan%2B275b%2Bwheel%2Bloader%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=michigan+275b+wheel+loader&usg=__xDZFNoS7LRJzd-mluTxV2FJTENI=&docid=zPS7AbUGXc2ePM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=18ddUfjMJ4Xz0gXa_IG4Cw&ved=0CFEQ9QEwCA&dur=2224 and also to a lesser extent with its replacement the Terex 72 - 71 http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://army-uk.com/stock/fotobig/334_terex7271-12.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.exmod-uk.com/equip.php?ID%3D182&h=367&w=550&sz=75&tbnid=iLBnNoZ6GS9x0M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=135&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dterex%2B7271%2Bwheel%2Bloader%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=terex+7271+wheel+loader&usg=__JA57IuVCTXPCZzBQtuVNiLxZOgg=&docid=UVmwughqNlXe3M&hl=en&sa=X&ei=fMddUYqKN_Tz0gWX3IDQDw&sqi=2&ved=0CGcQ9QEwCw&dur=2101 . No visibility over the rear bonnet for about 50 ft The biggest buckets the Army had I believe.
