The ML was a 2ton chassis introduced just before the war and was used for trucks, vans and buses. It is likely that a number would have been taken up by the Army from civilian use at the start of the war and would probably subsequently been lost at Dunkirk. If you Google Bedford+ML you will find a number of pictures of civilian restored vehicles.

According to Vanderveen the Ambulance body was built by Mann Egerton and was also fitted on Morris 4x2 and 6x4.

John,

I have posted questions up about this ambulance in the past. A Bedford ML front wing was further forward and did not encroach on the bulkhead as a K2 one does, but the ambulance shown here appears to be an Austin but with an OY or MW bonnet, see the side covers, very odd.

Tomas,

That is a good photo. The number puts it as an impressed vehicle / ambulance. It is a prewar WL or WT, that is probably impressed and a Mann Egerton body hurriedly put on the chassis. The front door is in the body as it is intended for an integral cab, like K2 and ML.

There is a similar one in Bart Vanderveen's Bedford book.
