Leyland 680 power plus engine

While in the play pen at gdsf i felt that the 680 in the T was not giving its best,i was told that one posible solution would be to increase fuel feed pipe diameter, as the feed from the tank has original large bore pipe but at the injector pump it is only about 10mm .Any advice greatly appreciated.Also noted many variations of the 680 at dorset.

Just thinking out loud here (just trying to get a ballpark figure) -

 

DT981 at 3 mpg and 20 mph gives fuel consumptiuon of 6.7 gallons per hour

 

A 10 litre excavator engine working 10 hour day using 60 gallons uses 6 gallons per hour

 

So, allowing 12 gallons per hour peak flow, you'd need a flowrate of about one gallon every 5 minutes, or 1.6 pints per minute.

 

Seems quite achievable with a 10mm pipe to me, especially when pumped through.

 

I wonder how this compares to the actual max. fuel consumption rate of the 680?

But if the internal surface of the pipe is corroded due to moisture in the fuel or covered with deposits laminar flow will not exist. Turbulent flow and reduced velocity ensues.

 

I would have expected a 10mm pipe would be sufficient but is it on the lift(suction) or supply (pressure) side of a pump?
