Can anyone tell me what this is? I bought it at Beltring purely because I liked the box and the quality of the steel. Now how sad is that.....

 

I think it is artillery based so Rob, are you there?

Looks a bit like a "go no-go" gauge for a part on the gun...

Try measuring the cutout on each to see if they are a thou or so different.

With the same NSN they should all be identical - that would just tell you the tolerance to which they were manufactured, no?

Think you're correct... the 5520 part of the NSN are

Inspection Gages and Precision Layout Tools... Note-Special inspection gages are included in this class. Includes Go and Not-Go Gages, including Plug, Ring, Snap, Thread, and Length Gages; Profile Gages; Fixture Gages; Special Inspection Gages.
