Mystery Object No.124

Recommended Posts

It loks like there may be a joystick under the soldiers right hand. I am going for a controller for some guided weapon, with the indicator indicating the range to the target, or how far the weapon has travelled.

Not a GW trainer or guidance system Richard, although funnily enough, it a similar size to the control panel for the Vigilant simulator & like that there would be a counter of sorts.

Actually I think the soldier is operating the control that shifts the double lines on the display up or down.

Yes

The yellow square is the screen & green square I believe controls double-line display.

Does it have anything to do with a seismic sensor that detects ground movement:confused:

I was still thinking along the same lines, thought it may be for picking up footsteps... how about an acoustic sensor then:confused:

Nope, think about the original display picture a bit more & what it might be displaying.

Is it the control console for mortar locating equipment?

Neil already suggested that one...

No you're going off course, think about Neil's post & yours at about that stage. You had two different posts which had something in common with the answer.

Lee was close with perimeter protection, I was close with Mortar fire location - how about something to pick up the sounds of movement - disturbed undergrowth, breathing, heartbeats etc???

Azimuth and elevation suggest some sort of aiming/predictor device, is it for predicting the range of a mortar or the number of propellant charges to use?
