here is a photo to remind you

russ has spent a few months sourcing the parts to do a conversion & the bits have come from Poland, Berlin, USA & UK .

russ spent the bank holiday weekend working on the bike

From ugly bug to butterfly, well sort of if you know what I mean.

Thats an amazing job, I'm almost feeling the need to rush out and buy the first rusty Ural I can find.........

 We've got an old Kawasaki in the barn, I wonder, knobbly tyres and a coat of OD, leather rifle holder etc etc, it could just work.

Sound of large SLAP, wake up Paul.

Cheers

Paul

time off,

what is that.

thanks for the comments guys, very good to get feedback.

Russ chose the grey because he portrays a soldier of the afrika corps fieldgendarmerie police unit and all the German vehicles were grey up till 1943, so the early desert vehicles were grey as opposed to the desert yellow, i think. sorry if i got it wrong guys !!!

this is a side line to the SWBs reenacting group of which he is a member as well.

cheers

Hi Berni,

with out checking the dates i belive `ordanance tan ` was authorised in 1943, most of the Afrika Korps vehicles were shipped in the grey colour and received a tan over coat /camo on arrival but most were left grey and just accumulateted acovering of dust and sand through normal use.

Hi Jack ,

Im looking for a gun ring and a 50 cal for the gmc at beltring and that will probably cost around £2000 so something has to go .

The plan for next year is to build a late wartime vw beetle ambulance .

cheers Russ

Looks (looked) good for a conversion to R12, I did the same thing from a M72 to an R75 I used a yolk conversion (had cast dyed and machined) and put 16'' wheels on then did a MT16 (driven sidecar) conversion put alot more bits like mudgaurds/tank gearchange and other things, sprayed it beige and it looked really good but it was an expensive, and really craved the real thing. Now ive got a Zundapp KS750 (43) and this has the full spec.........hi/low ratio gears, drive to sidecar, locking diff, reverse and hydrolic brakes,. a real 4x4 (or 2x3?) I have put some WH licence plates on and need the rubber stamp, militariaregaliaspecalist (militaria@regaliaspecialist.com) do stamps but ive orderd a ''fieldpost'' rubber hand stamp, is this correct? they were stamped on Wehrmacht vehicles between the WH and numbers 423566 in red ink, any help on this matter would be great thanks.

its all done from books & looking at pictures on the internet.

Russ managed to get a kdf/beetle hardback book which has coloured pictures of almost every one produced.

when he is starting a project he spends a few weeks reading anything he can get his hands on to make sure he has a fighting chance, there's books in the frontroom, loo, bathroom & bedroom .

he also takes high definintion photos of vehicles at shows so he can blow up the detail on the pc at home.

e bay is a great source of parts & he also used a company in poland called old time garage ( oldtimegarage.com) i think.

it did seem a bit dodgy as you put money by bank transfer into an account in poland & then wait a week or so for the bits to arrive, it did cost extra to do this so if you do end up using them make sure you have a comprehensive list & order it all in 1 go.( 25.00 charge at the bank)

there is also a comapany based kent way who trade at Beltring but i can't remember what they are called

i will try & find photos of the KDF he did a couple of years ago as this was also a project from a modern car to a replica staff car.

but really the only advice i can give is to do research & then more research, i know i was a bit of a renovation widow for a while when russ was working on each of them but the end result was worth all the hardship.

it was also kind of fun in a perverse way,

hi every one , im new and have a question on the licence laws on bikes with side cars , ive asked many people and ive got many oooooooo ehhhhhhhhhs !!!! if the side car wheel is driven does it come under the same format as a trike there for allowing you to ride it on a car licence ?

Hi Jonathan;

Good question.

From my understanding,......and I may well be wrong, driven sidecar wheels are no longer legal,....and yes, I did know an owner of one who tried to register his as a trike, but was told, 'a trike has a certral driving position,....(outfit obviously is offset)

Last i heard was he was challenging this, with the help, (i believe) of a riders rights disability group, who adapt bikes for those with disabilities,.including a sidecar outfit, where the 'rider' loads him/herself into the rear of chair whilst staying in wheelchair, and bike controls ate re-located in front of them.

Might be worth a google search.

Are you thinking trike because of no bike license ??
