I think there must be some overlap between the Pistonheads audience and the HMVF audience. Both are interested in vehicles and apparently people on Pistonheads are interested in military history too. I am fascinated (and so are many others) by the thread called 'Half a world, and half a lifetime away' on the history of the Falklands war. Have a look here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=210&t=1663484&i=0
I've recently acquired this ex Woolwich arsenal example of a Czekalski 105mm recoilless rifle bought back from the Falklands, which will be starting it's restoration shortly (mainly removing copious layers of NATO issue paint). I'm looking for any photographs or information about the mounting arrangements for the spotting rifle (a heavy barrel FAL mounted on top of the gun), the electrical firing mechanism and sighting system. I've managed to obtain some images from period publications and the internet, but they are not quite clear enough to make out the detail. Any help gratefully received, or any other information relating to supporting equipment and service use.
According to a recent issue of a UK tractor magazine at least 3 County Forward Control tractors, likely 1184s were purchased by the MOD. A picture in the magazine shows a unit coupled to an artic trailer coming off or going onto what I believe is a Mexefloat raft. This indicates that it was after the end of the war phase and in the garrison build up after. There is also a mention of some remote control ones being used for de-mining. Does anyone know:- -The army / navy / air force registrations of the units? - Are there any other pictures of the tractors apart from the one in the magazine? - What was the fate of them? R
