  1. Just to put the record straight. Yes I have got cancer, I was operated on and had chemo last Friday and will require treatment and possibly further ops for the remainder of my time but I have no intention of checking out in the forseeable future and my life will carry on much as it's always done. I realise that this will be a disappointment to a few people but that's life.
  2. I have just renewed my tax on the Militant at the local post office for the next year and it was the easiest and quickest yet. The gentleman did not want to see any documents or a form (I did not have the reminder with me) and just looked at the registration document and issued from that. Apparently they have been told not to inspect documents, just to issue the tax disc. He did say they do not yet have access to mot or insurance databases but will in the future. I suppose with ANPR and the so called RAC Traffic Alert sensors there is no need to filter the applications as you are getting checked anyway, but it makes the process of renewal nice and simple. :-) Iain

  8. I remember a First World War veteran talking on TV about his experiences of living in the trenches and seeing dead bodies: shattered limbs, skulls in trench walls, fingers or hands being used as coat hangers, walking on bodies to him it became the norm something to endure till he went home to his family. Most of the things that he said have now passed from my memory circa 1980 but certain things did stay and took all the fun out of war. I suspect that most of the things that he said then would never see the light of day on TV now. Pity though, sometimes the gruesome bits need to be shown or heard about just to remind people that war isn't a money making exercise nor is it fun. Wall to wall 24 hour news has made war unreal and computer war games oh mama what a heap of trouble thats going to become. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/world-history/never-before-seen-personal-accounts-of-great-war-offer-vivid-picture-of-life-at-the-front-9188029.html

  15. Sad news , another WW 2 veteran passed away. The tank commander , Danny Mc Leod , South Alberta Regiment , 4th Canadian Armoured Division , liberated our home town , Eeklo , back in september '44. No heavy fighting took place at the liberation , the German Army was on the retreat in our region . The Canadian Army had a very succesful campaign , from the Normandy landings , Belgium , The Netherlands through the heart of the "3d Reich". This man deserves his place among the heroes , may he rest in peace !

  18. See that an 88 year old ex SS soldier has been charged with taking part in this massacre, will be interesting to see if it gets to court but i dearly hope so and that the German's do not do as the French did with previous alleged perpetrators and not bother in the name of reconcillation,i have no axe to grind against the Germans but feel that charges are right, what are your views on this putting aside the alleged kidnapping/execution of the doctor/general by the resistance.Linky..... http://news.sky.com/story/1192372/ex-ss-soldier-88-charged-over-nazi-massacre
  19. A very large area of eastern Canada and the upper north east of the USA has been hit by an ice storm over the weekend. Yesterday Monday 23rd Dec was the first day without the freezing rain for us. I don't have pictures to show as I am waiting for my lady to load them. Many hundreds of thousands of people are without power and will remain so over the holidays and longer. Also along with power has been the phones. Over here they string both above ground. For those of you who don't understand an ice storm, let me explain. It starts with below freezing temperatures, somewhere from zero to typically say minus 10 degrees C. Add moisture falling as rain and not as snow and it freezes on contact to any and every surface, trees cars roads you name it. Trees bend over and touch power lines and ground them out or rip them off the poles if they fall. Mobility is screwed as any slight hill becomes impassable if sanding / salting wasn't non stop during the storm. Until we get a thaw or strong sunshine to melt the ice we will continue to loose power over and over again as more trees bend and fail. As the temperatures drop as they are expected to do they will also become more brittle and break. Our rural community has lost power countless times since Saturday. If you are not hearing from loved ones on this side of the pond this may be the reason. Google for more results R
  20. Hey All, not really MV news per-say but not sure where to put this. I got wind of news a few weeks ago that the control at North Witham was under threat from possible demolition, so far I've been able to raise enough profile to make the Forestry Commission sit up and take notice and stick to their guns of only placing secure fencing around the building to keep people out. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-25396935 We need your support to make them realise that its a really bad idea to knock her down, so please sign the epetition and join the facebook page. The FC are fully aware of the FB page and epetition, as is the local MP and local news. I was able to get on the BBC on Friday just gone, we have the ABCT behind us and going for possible grants, the end goal I can see right now is to put the tower into solid/stable mothball status, allowing bats to roost, Aviation tourism, safety to those who wish to visit the building, add to the woodland experience of Twyford Wood, and make sure she remains standing unlike so many that have been lost The airfield is of significant historical value as this is where US Pathfinders left England to set up the beacons in Normandy which guided the entire Airbourn invasion. 21. This is a photo of my first official job in Business. A simple task of painting the Grange Cavern Letterhead on the side of a Lorry with the biggest measurements (approx) 8 feet by 5 feet. Two side skirts and the back of the lorry, using a PVC paint that bonded to the plastic of the lorries skirt, and made it weather proof. A great way for the owner/director of the Museum to advertise his Museum as he drove up and down the Country in his Haulage Business. Only one word or warning - Be careful with the fumes from the paint!

  24. As a relatively new event on the rally circuit we have been looking at new ways to increase public awareness of what we do with the vehicles, in an attempt to bring young blood into the hobby. If you have a minute please take a look at http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/dig-for-victory-show/ I am always interested in peoples views. Best regards, James. http://www.digforvictoryshow.com
