  3. Operators handbook for Merlin engines

Just about to be binned by the father in law, was a genuine Rolls Royce operators handbook for Merlin engines MK 22,24,T24 and T24-2 for transport aircraft. It's a revised 1944 copy from 1945. Considering its age, it's complete with all diagrams and stamped with BOAC and British Overseas Airways, Technical Publications Branch. I was only expecting to get some Wilbur Smith books! Just how rare is this book? George.
  4. Looks like the real thing or what's left of it, useful for spares. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/possibly-once-was-a-long-time-ago-a-war-raf-bomb-trolley-trailer-spares-repair-/262757782379?hash=item3d2d95936b
  5. The BBC have just announced the death of Graham Lay, a military expert for the Antiques Road show. I met him at Chatham when I took Katy my WC54 to the recording at Chatham Dockyard. His first question was 'What is Katy doing here?' I was a bit supprised, but it turned out he had worked in Jersey and knew both Carol, Katy's former owner and Katy herself. He also told me that he loved MV's and had owned a Daimler Dingo till he was unable to drive it any more. A friendly, knowlegable man, who had a gift for making military history accesable to the public.
  6. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steam-engine-water-cart-/172456680100?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 Later version with smaller wheels & different maker to the one that I am restoring but a good start for somebody. Tad over priced though.
  7. Had a look today at the speedo of ferret 06 EB 71 and found the mileage was 17,000 odd. I think this has all been accrued whilst in-service. judged my its condition and also that its never been registered. This sounds like big mileage to me but what do the ferret experts think ? Cheers
  8. True barn find, one owner for 35 years, he bought it from the Portuguese military and then parked it, it is very complete and in a good nick, he started taking it apart a few years ago for a refresh. Ended up getting rid of the Humber Scout Car, since I have always fancied the Humber heavy.....plus it has a turret and goes boom... .
  9. They look good - maybe the future collector's dream. Alas the voice over is Russian! Kurganets-25: declassified. As we floated on the newest armored personnel carrier. Russian army Nic
  10. Medal detective

Saw this on the BBC web site where a man traces owners of lost medals, all the best to him http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-5c1940d8-5f8f-4fd4-ac12-e216184a9a72
  11. Babies

My eldest Daughter, Emma, gave birth to twin Boys on Monday evening, and they are called Oliver and Thomas. Mother and babies are in Darent Valley Hospital at the moment, but are doing well. I now have 6 Grandchildren and feel old.
  12. The investigation into how an iron gate stolen from the Nazis' Dachau concentration camp in southern Germany ended up in western Norway may be complicated because "no useable evidence" has been found, police say. http://www.news.com.au/world/breaking-news/stolen-nazi-get-found-in-norway/news-story/aa7d99472fc40fc66d6e93a774aa7b6d
  13. Anybody out there interested in an old ex military meadows diesel engined gen set. It must be around 70 yrs old, I was offered one yesterday, but it's not really of interest to me. It has been stored indoors for years and used to be used for occasionally powering an industrial unit near me. The unit is now closed & the gen set is now unfortunately being stored outdoors, so I guess will deteriorate fairly rapidly. I don't think the owners want much for it. They just want rid. if there is anyone interested let me know & I will put you in touch with them
  14. All change at CMV

I have heard that Ian Cushway is to leave CMV and is moving on to pastures new. The replacement editor will be John Carroll who you will know as the previous editor of Windscreen and is also the editor of Classic Land Rover. I am very excited as I think we would all agree that CMV needed a new direction and John having an excellent background and enthusiasm is just the person to take it forwards. I am looking forwards to renewing my subscription.

  17. So it seems to me that this is quite a poor decision to make, what do you think? You can't erase history and historical places. I think that clearly although rather one terrible Chap and not the kind you'd invite round for tea, these kinds of places should be kept as reminders of what can happen when things go very wrong in the human race. The Berchegarden, Bunker in Berlin are all places I think should have been or be kept as a reminder. I do understand why they were destroyed as the world just wanted to eradicate everything and stop Neo nazis but now we are 70 years on these places do hold hugely significant historical importance in the world. Seems a huge loss to society as a whole this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3844584/Hitler-s-house-Austria-DEMOLISHED-stop-neo-Nazis-flocking-place-born.html http://www.itv.com/news/2016-10-18/hitlers-house-spared-demolition-but-will-be-disguised/ http://www.scrapbookpages.com/EaglesNest/Berghof.html
  18. Ex Motorcraft employee

Had a visitor in the workshop today, a friend now in his 80's who I hadn't seen for some time. For many years he was employed as a commercial vehicle mechanic by the local authority but apart from the fact that he was originally a Londoner born and bred we had never discussed his previous 'life'. My jeep was parked in the workshop and as he walked in his face lit up on spotting it, rather to my surprise his immediate comment was 'I've driven hundreds of them', as I was raising a somewhat cynical eyebrow and before I could say anything he carried on 'I know that's a French one' not knowing it belonged to me and and after only a quick glance at the side and rear from 15 to 20 feet away as he entered the building. There obviously being a lot more to this than met the eye I wanted to know more, a lot more. As its now after 2am and I have to get up at my usual time of 6.30 am I will, hopefully, continue this story for anyone interested later today.
  19. I probably shouldn't laugh; but:-

Nothing to do with Ferrari, but i thought i would share this with you just so we can have a laugh at someone elses expense. I am interested in all sorts of daft old cars and something i am recently recovering from; is a fetish for the variomatic DAf 33. I have 2: one good and one knackered anyway i haven't used them and decided to sell them, this bloke came to see them and offered me £ 800 for the 2. with the intention of coming back today to buy them. i then got this email Hello It would appear that I have to speak to my wife when I get home, I have just spoken on the phone to her and the word "divorce" was peppered, along with a range of expletives throughout the conversation. Bare with me just a few hours which i thought was a joke, and today i emailed him and said Hi I just wondered how you are getting along. I have 2 more people that are interested. What shall I tell them? Vintage Top Gear Regards Dougal and this is the genuine reply i have just received off him now Hello Believe it or not I'm actually getting divorced now. I'm currently living on my sisters settee and I have to go to the solicitors on Monday do unfortunately, and I do have to apologise profusely, I'm going to have to let you down. If any of the other people who are interested might want a Daf 46 then one might be for sale very soon! I probably shouldn't laugh!

  23. I found this article interesting. USS Ranger was the aircraft carrier used to film Topgun, amongst other films. Sold by the US Navy for 1 cent. But her final journey is quite impressive..... http://wtkr.com/2015/04/13/drone-films-the-uss-ranger-on-her-final-journey-to-the-scrap-yard/
  24. Goodbye EMERs

From 1st September Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Regulations (EMERs) entered a 4-month period of obsolescence. If there are no justifications received to maintain any they will be rendered obsolete after this period. There are only 350 EMERs remaining & these have not been updated in 10 years. This list can be downloaded from http://www.allanwebb.co.uk/lecomportfolio/
