  1. My brothers project... read it here. You can ask for more info at Beltring. War monument Allied Fallen Soldiers. After thorough investigation in various archives and war diaries i have found 29 names of Allied soldiers who died in action in WW2 in the communicipality of Kerkdriel,The Netherlands. The soldiers are from Great Britain,Canada,Australia and the USA. There is NO monument what so ever to commemorate these brave men,so i thought it was time to give honour to these soldiers by starting a foundation to raise money for a monument. These 29 names will be put on a granite slab and will be revealed on September 11th 2010 if all goes well…. We have already 1000 euro’s as a gift! So we are on our way! We had an interview in the local newspaper to inform people about it. I hope we can raise the money (4000 euro’s) needed to pay a proper respect to the 29 fallen with a permanent memorial plaque. Can you help us….???? IBAN/SEPA Nummer: NL33RABO0109139399 BIC Nummer: RABONL2U Banknaam: Rabobank Name of Foundation : Stichting Oorlogsmonument Geallieerde Gevallenen. Lokation: Kerkdriel,The Netherlands. We are an officially registered foundation at the Chamber of Commerce Midden-Nederland Nr. 30287305.
  2. Folks, from the new April 2021 tax year Black and White number plates are only permitted on vehicles built before 1st Jan 1980, and if used, permission must be obtained from the DVLA first. (CORRECTION - by applying for Historic status) The fine is apparently £1,000 (or up to) for non compliance. Ouch! Also in a crackdown on road users trying to defeat number plate recognition cameras, irregular spaced letters / numbers will be illegal and so will B&W plates if it is deemed they are of a colour shape or design that may defeat the speed cameras etc. I hope that won't put an end to those silver and black registrations where the letters / numbers are raised slightly. I would not want members fined an EXTRA £1,000 on top of the normal penalty for speeding in their Scammell Pioneer! (PARAGRAPH DELETED) PS - also buy a GB sticker if you ever want to go to Normandy or Arnhem in 2024 (assuming covid has gone by then), as the GB sign within the blue EU flag on vehicle registration plates is not valid now, on any new UK registered vehicle.
  3. I am selling a massive BRITISH Universal carrier collection, carriers, tracks, lots and lots of extremely rare parts. Im currently living in NZ and anyone can come and view. 5. I have been buying John & Mary Worthing jeep canvas for the last 20 years and my dad before me. I was told to try Allied forces canvas. So I gave them a call as they are more expensive than Worthing . Q, why is your canvas products more expensive than john & Mary Worthing's A, our canvas is more heavier, better made. better quality and goes through quality control before sent out to make sure the customer is happy. Q, ok, can you tell me about the colour. is it green or olive? A, it is olive Q, ok . how long will it take for me to get my order? A, If you want all the canvas in the same colour it usually takes around 6 weeks Q, do you supply trade prices? A, no but i will give you free delivery Q, that's great give me a ring when it is ready. one week later i get a call . [ your canvas is ready ] payment made . delivered a couple of days later and this is the fun bit as far as olive i had not seen any so I asked members of the mvt club what colour they would say the canvas was . GREEN not one parson said olive . Also if you look at the stitching you can see that it has been stitched picked and re stitched . this to me is not good craftsman ship as I have never had this from John & Mary Worthing's its also at the front of the cushion in view. I gave them a call today thinking they may have left a message on an answering phone as there web page offers no information of opening times . it was answered so I just said sorry to bother you but is address on the web site was a return address ? Jim replied why what is the problem so I told him and this was his answer. SEND IT BACK AND I WILL REFUND YOU AND DONT EVER RING OF CONTACT THIS FU**ING COMAPANY AGAIN as I have been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome I am glad I record all my phone conversations. the moral of the storey is you usually get what you pay for. technically not in this case.
  6. Finally, the long awaited naval section! Please be aware that the naval section is limited to military ships only!
  7. We don't have a safety section as such in the Forum, so I'll put this here. The UK Health and Safety Executive have released a warning about an accident with a track adjuster on a (non-military) item of plant where the grease nipple was ejected with fatal results. Just beware if you are using a hand-held grease gun and standing in line with the grease nipple. http://www.hse.gov.uk/safetybulletins/t ... ioning.htm Andy
  8. A £5000 reward has been offered for the return of Alfred Barlow's medals, which were lost after a visit to the men's room at Norton Canes services on the M6 Toll just North of Birmingham on June 8th, after returning from a pilgrimage to Normandy. Mr Barlow, who is blind and turned 96 yesterday, served with 3rd Reconnaissance (Recce) Regiment, 3rd Division, and landed on Sword Beach at 10am on D-Day, June 6 1944. The four medals lost are the 1939-1945 Star, the France & Germany Star, the 1939-1945 War Medal and the Palestine Medal. Anyone with information on the return of the medals is asked to contact the sight loss charity on the free Blind Veterans UK hotline on 0800 389 7979. 10. I have just finished reading this thread on the G503 forum web pages http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=278431 Some of you may already be aware of this but I have not seen it discussed here. I post without wishing to be alarmist in any shape or form and without further comment it is for information only. With the advent of the internet we all now buy parts from many varied sources so if you have replaced a sector shaft in you steering box since 2011 it may benefit you to read the above link in full and then read the official recall notice here http://www.omix-ada.com/media/Steering%20Sector%20Shaft%20Recall.pdf Pete

  12. The local council has increased the council tax on the old tin cowshed I store my vehicles in by £8500. Has anyone else been hit by such ridiculous prices? Terry
  13. Don't know if this has been mentioned on here yet but I'm sure it could affect a lot of us! European BAN for assault weapons proposed European commission has proposed new, harder guns laws. These would include: -ban of any "assault weapons", that are classified in the B7 category.... AR, AK, FAL etc... EVEN IF PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATED - selling and possession of alarm weapons regulated by a declaration of the owner -ban of online sales of weapons, key parts of weapons and ammunition. http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-15-6110_en.htm

  15. As all threads in Clive's Corner are closed & members can't reply or start new threads here so that the info doesn't get lost in hundreds of posts/threads, I thought I would post an Open thread where members may ask questions or make comments on his papers. I know members have done so on the open forum in the past but it only makes sense to keep all the comments on the same board.
  16. I found the posts below on the Austin Seven Friends Forum and wonder if military vehicles are being targeted in the same way? Tracking devices. For all the people who like to enter cars shows, it would seem that cars at shows and events have become targets for criminals. A tracking device is fitted to the car at the show then is later tracked to the owners home address and the car stolen. It is probably worth giving your car a good look over before you leave the show just to be on the safe side. Re: Tracking devices. I saw these images posted on a classic Ford page I follow, these were found on a car after Ford Fair at Silverstone, there has also been reports of cars going missing after this event also Photos by joda_2k
  17. A visit to a primary school in the lower Conwy Valley has been arranged for this Thursday 13th October. I have done several school visits previously and will be taking my own vehicles and if anybody else would like to bring a vehicle I can assure you it will be a very rewarding experience. I will be giving some of the children a talk about WW11 and you would be welcome to join in with this if you wish but if you only wanted to show your vehicle(s) to the children and possibly a few parents that's OK. I realise this is very short notice but this is due to circumstances beyond my control but your attendance would be greatly appreciated. There would be no payment as I do this purely on a voluntary basis and don't ask the school's for any expenses etc.
  18. Lightship that helped to save the lives of thousands of allied troops during the D-Day landings now lies rusting in River Nea. Here is a link. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3379072/WWII-ship-Wales-saved-thousands-one-historian-hopes-restore-it.html
  19. Is there a company out there that will make a set of brake shoes ? They are all missing from my 1944 Standard UV Tilly & the Standard Flying 12 which is what the UV Tilly is based on has much smaller shoes. I do have a set for a pattern in the other Tilly but I don't want to start cannibalising it.
  20. I've been contacted by the president of the Greatest Generations Foundation who are desperately needing a driver to take a GMC from Milton Keynes to Normandy via Portsmouth. The destination will be St. Marie du Mont. The foundation organises the return of WWII veterans from America to their battlegrounds. This year will see ten veterans visiting Normandy and I guess part of their plan is to ferry them around in the GMC as long as they can get it over there. I asked him a few relevant questions and this was his reply:- Is it fully insured and would insurance for the driver be sorted out? It will be once a driver has been found so that the name can be added to the insurance. Will there be passengers going along? No passengers Will the driver be required during the duration of your visit to Normandy? No, we will drive the truck around ourselves Would the driver have to sort out the ferry crossing beforehand? No, we would make all those arrangements too. What date do you want it there by? Need it there by June 02. So if anybody fancies helping out a very good organisation and get a free trip to Normandy where all you've got to pay is your return ticket as a passenger, then please drop me a message and I'll pass on your details to the Foundation. Just the chance to meet ten WWII veterans should be good enough reason to do it. Neil.
  21. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/129843 PetitionRecognise the UK standard of firearm deactivation as equivalent to EU standards. Proposed legislation in the Policing and Crime Bill intends to enforce the application of a EU standard that will result in firearms previously deactivated to UK Home Office standards being classified as defectively deactivated. The EU standard is inferior to the UK standard and unnecessary here.
  22. https://www.facebook.com/Beredskapsmuseet/ http://www.beredskapsmuseet.com/ The Military Defence Museum, seems the local authorities wish to seize & destroy some exhibits.
  23. The new proposals (Consultation Document) by the CAA to increase charges by an inordinate 100% will impose huge additional costs on airshows and aircraft operators which could potentially threaten their existence. If you enjoy seeing historic classic aircraft flying in the UK skies and at the few remaining air shows we have in this country then please could you sign the petition below to show your support for this hike in charges to be reconsidered.. .... Sign Petition here: http://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/120628
  24. Hi all. From the latest IMPS newsletter regarding the agreement between the club and the War and Peace organisers: I have removed particulars that do not deal directly with entry into the show as these are not relevant for non-IMPS members. IMPS/WAR & PEACE REVIVAL AGREEMENT Following is a summary of the revised IMPS/W&PR Agreement 1. IMPS Club members VEHICLES enjoy free entry for up to TWO adults & two children after two years of continuous club membership. BOTH adults must be members of the IMPS to receive free entry. Any non members will need to purchase a show (NB. All vehicle entries, regardless of whether affiliated to a club or not, and including MVT and IMPS, are required to pay £10 per entry form towards provision of 24 hour toilet facilities. This fee is per entry, so if more than one vehicle on an entry still only £10 for the entry). Please note that paper entry forms will not be issued. All entries will be done no line through the W&P Revival website. I don't feel it is fair in regard to both adults having to be IMPS members. ie. If you are a IMPS member but your partner isn't you'll have to pay for her / his entry into the show, regardless of what or how many vehicles you are bringing. I also feel sorry for the hundreds of owners who "don't do" the internet - no paper entries........ I have to be honest but I'm struggling to think of a reason to attend the show anymore and I feel quite sad about that. If I do attend I will come to meet friends and have a social. The days of transporting heavy tanks and various different vehicles to the show are long behind me. Markheliops
