1. The 2016 and future shows have been cancelled until further notice. Emailed press release from the committee today.... "Dear all, It has been a hard decision to take, but the current organising committee, namely myself, Simon Roberts, Gary Docherty and Dave Reape, have decided to step down from the organisation of the Battlegroup north show for the foreseeable future. As you all know we have organised this show for quite a number of years now ( I think its 10 years or more) at the Yorkshire Air museum, Elvington. But, we have finally decided that the time has come for the show in its current format to have a rest. And we, like the show need a rest from it too. There are many reasons for this decision, which we don’t need to go into here, but we felt that the show had possibly ‘had its best’ and in some ways we were starting to feel like we were starting to ‘flog a dead horse’. After discussion with the management of the museum, we all concluded that it was probably wise to have some time off from the big show, for all of us and for the sake of the future relationship between our two organisations. Relations with the museum are still in good order, and we have already discussed the possibility of other events in the museum, but probably on a smaller scale, and at different times, so you can look forward to those in the not too distant future. I’m sure you can appreciate the amount of work that goes into the organisation of a show such as this, and therefore I would like to extend my grateful thanks to Simon, Gary and Dave for all of their help, hard work, patience and imagination over the past years, we’ve all enjoyed doing it immensely and so felt that like all good champions it is a good time to stop whilst you are on top! I would also like to thank very much, our hosts at the Yorkshire air museum, who have allowed us to use their facilities for all of these years, I’m sure that the Yorkshire MVT and the Yorkshire Air Museum have formed a very strong symbiotic relationship over these past years, and I hope that it will continue to the benefit of both. I’m trying not to leave anybody out, and so would like to thank all helpers and organisers for the show during its long life span, you know who you are so thanks to one and all, the show wouldn’t have been the same without you. If anybody feels that they would like to form a committee to take on the organisation of the show either in 2016 or beyond, please get in touch with me and I will be more than happy to help you get going, and to help with the liason with the museum and other suppliers etc. we have a great deal of information and experience so am happy to share it if you want to give it a try….. Watch this space for future events I’m not convinced that those who have been putting the effort in over these past years will be entirely happy with all of the free time they now have! With best wishes for a busy and successful 2016 season. Brian Slingsby, and ‘the committee’ Simon, Dave and Gary."
2. It's only 2 weeks till the show at Malvern so who is going ? C
3. As we have a fair number of members from Australia now on the forum, there maybe some who will be interested in this; Just a heads up to let you know that the latest newsletter is available to see online at the official Swim-In website, www.corowaswim-in.org look for the link to the November issue of KVE News. All the latest information on our event which takes place from the 14th to 20th March 2016 at Corowa, NSW, Australia. Get your entries in now, to ensure you get a participant pack. Forms are on the website along with booking forms for the Swap Meet on 19th March at Corowa Showground. The themes will be Year of the Tank, and Year of the Chrysler, the latter includes Dodge, Fargo and any other military vehicle built under the Chrysler flag. All types of ex-military vehicles are welcome besides the themes. Those on our database should have received the KVE News by email in recent days, anyone who thinks they should have had it, but not got it, please check your spam/junk folders or send me a PM. A new feature on our website www.corowaswim-in.org is an event calendar for Australian military vehicles and other events where they are invited. The idea was suggested by a member of KVE, as we have links with MV clubs around the country and the website can be a portal for seeking event information. If you or your club are organising an event and would like it put on the calendar, then go to the website and below the calendar is an online form to fill all the details in. Best regards, Richard Farrant KVE committee member and editor
4. Hi All, Just to let you know that the last event of the season (with the exception of Santa trains!) at the Apedale Valley Light Railway (www.avlr.org.uk) is the "Military Memories" weekend - 7/8th November from 11:30 to 4pm each day. It is planned to operate demonstration First World War, Second World War and Cold War era trains during the weekend over the whole site. In addition the ever popular Trench will be open, staffed by members from the Gordon Highlanders living History group - who will enact various scenarios dueing the weekend. Passenger trains will be running and the adjacent heritage centre will be open - with the all important cafe serving up the local Staffordshire delicasy of Oatcakes. Vintage and Classic military vehicles are welcome to attend - attached is the entry form for anyone interested. Please feel free to roll up on the day! Many thanks,
5. If anyone is going along in a military vehicle to this event you will get free admission to the show Commander
6. Looking at the possibility of organising a 75th Anniversary celebration in 2016 for the Diamond T 980 and 981 models (although the 4 ton chassis models will be welcome too). To gauge the level of interest who would be interested in participating? It is intended that we join the commercial or military sections of an existing show. Proposed location would be central England (Worcestershire/Staffordshire area). Thanks Adrian.
7. Sheffield Cathedral are staging an event to mark the anniversary of the start of the Sheffield Blitz on Saturday 12th December. The location is the Cathedral Forecourt. (The Blitz went from 12th to 15th Dec 1940) This follows a successful VE Day event earlier this year. They are particularly keen to attract appropriate vehicles such as NFS Units but are equally clear that any 'correct' UK based period vehicles will be welcome. Dressed for the occasion is welcomed but not obligatory. Contact for the event is Janet Ridler <Janet.Ridler@sheffield-cathedral.org.uk>
8. For those who may want to visit or just read more about it, the WW1 Souterrain Impressions Ehibition is coming to Mississauga, Ontario. It opens on September 26th and will be in Mississauga until November 30th. From the internet and Heritage Mississauga, this exhibition illuminates the lives of Canadian veterans through the deeply personal carvings and drawings made by soldiers concealed in the allied caves and trenches near Vimy Ridge, France. The exhibition includes reproductions of carvings and images of the cave system at Vimy and the story of Canadigm’s work in developing the exhibition. "On April 17, 1917 at 5:30am, four Canadian divisions consisting of over 15,000 soldiers who had been stationed in the tunnels near Vimy Ridge 10 metres underground for weeks, stormed the Ridge and Hill 145 successfully capturing this strategic site. During those long weeks, soldiers carved regimental badges and messages to family back home using the soft chalk walls underground. For many it was their last communication; 3,598 Canadians were killed at Vimy". I believe that admission is free. More info available at http://souterrainimpressions.strikingly.com/

11. www.ww1-event.org Following on from the great success of the "Tracks to the Trenches" event at the Apedale Valley Light Railway in 2014, it gives us great pleasure to announce that the event is to be repeated and developed in 2016 and 2018. Attracting over 3000 visitors from across the UK and Europe, the 2014 event also received much praise and acclaim. In a departure to previous large events, the main galas at Apedale have now moved to the 2nd weekend in May each year. 2016 (TTTT 2) – a 3 day event from 13-15th May 2016. A very similar format to the 2014 event (TTTT 1); with photo-charters being arranged in advance of the event weekend, evening photo-shoots during the event, access all areas passes, an emphasis on Schools/Group visit packages, plus much more! 2018 (TTTT 3) – a 4 day World War 1 centenary event from 10th – 13th May 2018. Currently anticipated as really special year. Further details to be confirmed shortly, but hopefully developing on from TTTT1 and 2. Please keep the dates in your diaries & watch the event website for exciting developments! The organisers would like to invite any interested exhibitors or traders to contact us through this forum or through the event website – we would be pleased to hear from you! www.ww1-event.org

18. Dear all, I am currently planning a road tip from deepest Somerset to Denmark with my trusty Toyota and car trailer to collect some vehicle parts. My plan is to cross the Channel between Dover and Calais and then drive up though Holland, Germany etc. It occurred to me there may be others who want stuff dropped off along the way. Obviously I am not going to be Mr Postman for the odd nut and bolt, but if anyone wants a light vehicle/trailer taken to Holland and was willing to share some of the costs please get in touch. There will also be room for smaller parts on the return leg to the UK. My time frame is in the air but I can, within reason be flexible. All the very best, James.
