Jack posted a topic in Armour & Embarkation Dorset 23rd and 24th June 2012Armour & Embarkation - The Tanks Are Coming! A&E - as tough as this is going to be in this current financial depression we are going for it. A big ask I know but feel the fear and do it anyway. So what has this to do with HMVF? Well I am going to put this event along with The Pathfinder Magazine and HMVF all under one umbrella. Which will be called Pathfinder Media Group. And in this group will be HMVF, This will enable me to manage, update and maintain them all as they will be under one roof. So I am going to have built a portfolio site that has all three websites on it. So if you type in The Pathfinder Magazine, A&E or HMVF it will bring you to the same page - you will then see all three projects and you can then click on the one you want to visit. This will make sure that all visitors to any of the sites get to see everything else that we do. It may be an extra click for HMVFers but most have it book marked anyhow - it is the new people we need. Nothing will change with the forum at all - it will just be the redirect. So with regards to the event it will not be under the HMVF banner – it will be under the Pathfinder Media Group banner. There are several sound reason for this. One being that for us to put this event on we have to be insured up to the hilt – HMVF has no legal status as where Pathfinder Media Group will do. HMVF is the jewel in the crown for me and if anything was to go wrong HMVF would not be directly in the firing line – so it is safe. I/we/HMVF will not have access to grants or loans as do people who belong to the MVT and IMPS and so on. So this all going have to be funded by sponsorships and this is down to myself and the team. So to gain sponsorship then potential sponsorships will want to see some form of legal body, be it a trust, a business or a charity. So again by forming Pathfinder Media Group we can work to that. This event is going to be one of kind. We intend to get at least 12 WW11 tanks there – this has never been done here before and it is without doubt going to be historical. Also halftracks and other armoured vehicles along with heavy US and British soft skins and wreckers. The media will be involved in this from the start and I am in talks with the BBC as we speak. We will also have a DVD made. This is going to be you chance to be involved and experience something so unique that you will want to be there. To experience a line of tanks driving through country lanes and then into Dorchester town is going to be a one off chance of a lifetime. The soft skins will be filled with as many reenactors or folks as we can carry. We are wanting to get the Dorset Tourist board involved so that we can get as many folks out to see us as possible. Our campsite is well positioned and we will have loos and we will have showers! Hoorah! So now for the, perhaps controversial bit…we are going to be a small charge of just £15 to everyone who would like to attend, be it an mv owner, re-enactor or foot soldier. Before you go nuts and for transparency I will explain why. The team and I discussed this all day yesterday and looked at the event from all angles. As I said earlier it is my opinion it will become the way forward for all events like this. I am happy to lead the way on this, take the flak (if there is any) and get all of that out of the way. We have not got access to loans or grants – yes we could go to the National Lottery but that too has to be match funded and many hoops to crawl through. For this movement to always be exciting and moving forward we have to always be doing things differently – or trying too. Events like these have their place in our hobby and I for one (along with many others) have enjoyed events put on by the Stevens brothers and their teams – we need more of them. Not everyone enjoys sitting in a field and some want their fun from driving and ‘action’ weekends – these sorts of events are it. This is not a money making operation so please do not think that. But I will not get involved with this if we lose money – we can not afford to do that. The team will be putting hundreds if not thousands of hours in to this all free and out of their own time – things will be sacrificed. So with this in mind this is how we are moving forward. I know full well as many others do and will appreciate if you start to lose money then at least two things will happen, guaranteed 1) you cut corners which means the experience will not be what it should for us all 2) it won't happen again. No one will be bothered to put all of the blood sweat and tears into something that causes them pain, grief and bankruptcy. The £15 pound will also go towards the showers and a breakfast every morning from the Friday until the Sunday. It is important that we make this event one hell of an experience. Yes it may stop some folks from coming out of principle and we would be sorry if that happens but please do not allow this to stop you from being part of something special. I hope this meets with your approval and look forward to your feedback. Jack.
Right guys and gals, I have contacted West Down and have asked weather we can camp next year and have been told yes. I have not set the date yet because one of the idea's we have had is to try and run the weekend at the same time as the Popham H4H day. Because of the Popham H4H we have also decided to go for the same charity and try and raise twice as much between us. The weekend should give everyone somthing a bit different. We do need some advice though, First of, who is the best peaple to speak to about getting a big convoy / parade together. One idea we have come up with for next years is. Because of the amount of interest from West Down this year we have thought maybe we should go to them, instead of them coming to us. Sort of a parade if you know what I mean. That way they get to see your vehicles moving as well as getting to meet you guys at the same time. The parade would incorparate all era's WW1, WW2, post and present. If there are any renactment guys out there that would like to join in please feel free to contact me anytime. Along with West Down we are going to send out invites to the local Regiments that we have befreinded over the years. If a date is sorted with Popham H4H then the Sunday will be a masive convoy down the A303 East bound to this event for the day. Everyone is welcome to join in on the parade so lets get this one started. Chris G will have to give up the skittles trophy as we have now got a secret weapon. If you fancy giving this ago then please drop your name down and we can get some idea what we are working with. Date coming soon. All the best. Tony. Plain Invasion.
I am the chairman of the military vehicle portion of the 2010 WACO MILITARY EXPERIENCE in Troy Ohio July 9,10 & 11. This will be the second year for this event and we are going to make it bigger and better! By all accounts the 2009 show was very well like by those that attended and everybody says it was very well done and has great potential. Our biggest obstacle in 2010, as far as military vehicles go, is that the show is at the same time as the MVPA national Convention in Topeka, Kansas July 8-10. This will cause us to loose some potential vendors, participants and attendees. In 2011 this won't be a problem because the MVPA convention is in August at the Nutter Center in Dayton. Please look this posting over and let me know if it sounds like an event you would like to attend or if you have any suggestions to help us reach our goal as one of the premiere Military shows in the Midwest. To try and help judge the interest in this years event I am looking for input and the level of interest in attending from the following groups; Military vehicle owners All makes, models, size, period or country. Including amphibious vehicles. Reenactors All periods Vendors Vehicle parts, militaria, reenactor supplies and books. Aircraft owners Flyovers, displays WACO Field has a grass 2200 foot runway (1800 feet usable) Military collectors For displays, all periods Photos from last years event can be seen at these links by aragh_wolf by cavscout217 http://www.flickr.com/photos/wc62/ 4th of July Parade For 2010, the Troy 4th of July committee has asked us to participate with vehicles etc. in their parade which is something we are looking forward to doing. Due to the fact the parade will be the weekend before the show we will be planning some kind of "Military Week" displays or activities throughout the week around the Troy area to keep the interest level up during the week between the 2 events. Some of the proposed events Amphibious vehicle swim demo This past year we were fortunate enough to have 2 amphibious vehicles in attendance at the show, a DUKW and a LVT4. The owners of these vehicles have expressed their desire to "swim" their vehicles at the 2010 event. Work has begun to try and secure the permission to stage an amphibious event in the Great Miami River which flows through downtown Troy as part of the Historic River Corridor project the city is promoting in 2010. If we get approval for this I would hope we could atract more amphibious vehciles. Time line marching unit It has been suggested that along with vehicles in the July 4th parade we will try to get together a marching unit that will be a timeline type of thing with reenactors from all periods as well as perhaps current service members. Sunday morning military field religious service We would like to have a WW2 style (you now, off the hood of a jeep) non denominational religious service. We need to locate a reenactor that can portray a WW2 military chaplain, or a minister willing to play the part. More aircraft content The committee is working hard to increase the aircraft content of this year's show. Numerous pilots have expressed interest in participation in the event next year including the Commemorative Air Force and the Bamboo Bomber .We have a ride pilot interested in the weekend who flies a New Standard biplane that can haul 4 passengers at a time. We are also planning a display of aircraft engines both static and running. We hope to have a flyover of a C-5A Galaxy from Wright Patterson AFB.
