  1. I have been looking for a mortar trailer for a year or so now and have just bort this. The drawbar has been replaced and the hitch is wrong but it has the correct hand brake. The 2 Jack's / legs and clamps are missing. There is a tail gate on the back which has not done to much damage and the original tailgate is still on the front. The metal work is generally good and solid. I would like to rebuild it with the full mortar storage if I can find parts to buy or copy or a set of drawings. Peter.
  2. Great work as usual Guy. 10 years ago I new where there were 5 bodies of the type you need including 3 in a row in a scrap yard. They have all been scraped now. Peter.
  3. Hi Andy. North Lincs Engineering at Manby NR Louth did the work. They specialise in large engines in ships and generators etc. They knew what a 28hp engine was and supplied the bearings for the cranck and the liner. I got the cam and cam bearings of Chris Mortar. They could have metal sprayed they cam and reprofiled it but the costs were more than double the new one. Peter.
  4. Ernest Doe was a tractor dealer famous for modifying Ford tractors including the triple D which was 2 tractors bolted together through a turn table. He dose not make reproduction head lights, just sells them. Try tractor headlights on e-bay but the quality varies so some might not fit. Peter.
  5. The OY has a drain across the front of the bulkhead along the topedge of the bonnet. This has badly rotted so I have had a go at making a new one. I decided to try to make it in two half's and to pannal beat it round a wooden former. I screwed the metal to the former and will weld the holes up later. I have got the first half done and I am pleased with the result and I will repeat the process for the other side. There are a cople of places that need cutting and welding to lose some metal. Peter.
  6. Hi Nicky. An expensive and unexpected step in the right direction. I hope the last major cost are the radiator and wiring loom. The head and manifold will need facing but if there are any problems I have spairs so can swap them round. Peter.
  7. Hi Guy. They were able to keep the engine at +30 as the other cylinders were OK and only needed a clean up. Also I had a set of NOS +30 pistons so I won't need to get another set. Peter.
  8. I collected the engine to day. In the end I have had to have a full crank regrind, N,o,4 relined, the face of the block scimed and a NOS camshaft with new bearings. I have not done any thing with the head yet. Peter.
  9. Could be a bren gun magazine box CTL 1184a for M,K,1 carrier. Peter.
  10. I have one. The cross tube is bent and the weld on the top jaw is broken. I would want £250 for it as there getting hard to find and I am not desperate to sell it. Peter.
  11. I look into this a cople years ago when looking for carrier parts and found some one that had been. They told me the bloke was difficult to deal with and the carriers were T16 and they were rotted into the ground. The yard was supposed to have still been there then. I think they were a plant company. The AEC may still be there as I got the impresson not much left the yard. I never followed it up when I found out they were T16's. Peter.
  12. I don't see a problem to fabricate a base plate but I have only been looking 2 months and it is a long term project. It would be nice to have an original one if possible. I have already found quite a bit of other kit and manuals. I am shore there is one out there I just got to find it. Peter.
  13. If you look in the wireless section on MLU there is a thread on the ws11 and it shows this type of switch board used in 8cwt radio body's with ws11's. Peter.
  14. I am looking for a base plate and auxiliary base plate for a British 4.2" mortar. I know any thing for the 4.2" mortar is very hard to find so any help or lead's would be helpful. Thanks Peter.
  15. Have I got this right? The tanks buried are US lend least done so to avoid payment after the war? Peter.
  16. Dose anyone have the torque settings for the main and big end bearings on a Bedford 28hp engine? I did a search and found the cylinder head torque but not the bottom end. Thanks Peter.
  17. On a lighter note isn't there 6 acers of concrete at East Kirkby put in in the late 40's to be used by USAF? If you wanted to hide something from the US put it right under there noses! Peter.
  18. My mate pop up today to test drive his newly bort cushman scooter. It is a December 44 with matching numbers and has not done much for many years although the engine has been turned over once a month. There are a few problems with the exhaust and petrol leeks on the carb. But it went well although it could do with some supention. It is hoped to have it ready for the bank holiday at the end of next month to take to the Methringham Aviation Visitor Center.
  19. I Finnished cleaning the compressor and got it rebuilt today. For a small part it has taken a lot of work to get it done. As the weather was warm today I decided to do some paint spraying, the front wheels had been shot blasted and primed last year but were not looking there best so I rubbed them down to repaint, I also got the stearing box, propshaft and gearbox out and got 2 coats of redoxide on them. Peter.
  20. I was awake early this morning so I got up and took sump off engine. The first thing I saw was lots of silicon gasget round the sump. I then took N,o,4 piston out, the conrod nuts looked to have locktite on them. Once I had the piston out in the daylight I could see the top off the piston had been ground down. The journal on N, o, 4 is like new and the conrod is good. Peter.
  21. The rust on the top face is with in the combustion chamber of the cylinder head The piston on N, o, 4 is running 3-4mm lower than the other pistons. I think the truck my have been pulled off with a stuck piston and bent the conrod. The engine was running smoothly when I bort it although it was breathing oil which I put down to valve stem seal's or stuck rings. I will strip it down this weekend to find out what's wrong. Peter.
  22. Trying to post pictures with my phone if its worked the first picture should be a good cylinder and the next 2 show N, o, 4. Peter.
  23. Thanks Nicky, I had a bit of a panic last night. Thort I may need a new engine. Rang North Lincs Engineering at Manby N, r, Louth today and the said they could supply and fit a liner at good price subject to looking at it. So I will strip the bottom end out this weekend and clean it down to take over next week. Peter.
